Soooo, now that this data is available to EVERYBODY, it should be even more apparent to schools and librarians that OnShelf/BookmarkED is a waste of money. 👀

Screenshot of a search in the new censorship database from ALA for my book BODY TALK. It's seen 12 attempts at censorship, including 9 in school libraries and 3 in public libraries.
The ALA Office of Intellectual Freedom released a Censorship Search Portal with more than 30 years of data on book bans.
I have tracked the banning of my own books–all have been there–but this is higher than my count, even!
Here's the database: www.ala.org/bbooks/censo...
Omigosh this is everything, Maggie!!! Pigeon painting party fundraiser??!!! I’m pretty sure I’m gonna do that for my bday this year.
“At the end of the day, this is all part of parents being part of the process and feeling good…”

Wait a minute, I thought this was about “pRoTeCtInG cHiLdReN”? You mean it’s *actually* about assuaging some parents’ feelings?
Shocking. 🙄
*This* is how you Wreck ‘em, Tech.
I applaud TTU AAUP and am proud of my high school classmate Dr. Geiger!
Hooray for anti-library legislation failing in Alabama!
Kudos to all the advocates and orgs thought pushed back on this bill, and congratulations. 🍾

Hey, you got your religion in my politics!
No, you got your politics in my religion!
YAY, FRANK!!
Texans, read and vote! 🗳️📚
ACLU merchandise: t shirt says dissent is patriotic, t shirt says banned bookworm, and hat says see you in court.
I got my sweet new merch from @aclu.org in the mail today. You can get your own here: shop.aclu.org
I am going to see her in a few weeks, too!! Delighted to hear this.
Also, of note, I don’t think I’ll watch the movie. I don’t think I want to see the things on film that I envisioned in print.
(That’s how books and film are different, book banners.)
I’ll just assume the book is better, too. 🫣🥰📚
Finished reading Clive Barker’s The Hellbound Heart this morning. Lots of good lessons in there for anyone who needs a fictional metaphor for helping to understand the leopards eating one’s own face, and the triumph of courage over treachery. Queer horror from 1987 is prescient. 📚
*US, not IS.
And my other alma mater is under attack by the other guy in a cushy chair in Austin looking to trade up to IS Senator.
We’re intimidating teachers and scaring them into submission of only instructing exactly what the state has decreed.
In America.
In 2026.

My once beloved Texas Tech University is falling from grace at the hands of a state senator who inflicted so much damage on it from his cushy chair in Austin.
How does limiting subject matter and scaring teachers help ADULT students?

Great reflections here, Kelly. 🙏
It is April of 2026. School started in August. Canyon ISD has not ordered any books this school year. That is the harm to our academic students from SB13 implementation. Nothing in the law prohibits books from being ordered, but this is the outcome many of us predicted. @txfreedomread.bsky.social
Update: a list was preliminarily approved today by the SBOE. Texans, we have until June to submit comments about this new list. Do it. www.texastribune.org/2026/04/09/t...
Oh my, you love to see it!
Yo, @bartography.bsky.social, this looks like your kind of festival.
A kid I know first said the word, loudly, at age 9 when reading a pair of socks printed with “F*** off, I’m Reading,” at @bookpeople.com. 😝
Heck no, it isn’t! Thankful we will have yet another opportunity to educate our SBOE on the problems of these lists.
Coverage of the Texas SBOE hearing about a required reading list that still awaits a vote. Thank you @frankstrong.bsky.social and @drannd.bsky.social for testifying in person, and to everyone who wrote in. 📚 www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/edu...
I got to see two of these goofy-looking birds this morning. One was initially perched on a powerline and the other was in a tree. They flew, awkwardly, around looking for a tree nest site, I assume. Good stuff. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black-b...

When it gets difficult to be me in the place and time I am, this panel from @katemessner.com’s History Smashers Women’s Right to Vote reminds me that I might actually be the right person in the right place at the right time.
You might be, too.
Explore on your own time.
Also no exploring topics we don’t like in libraries. Only explore these topics we want you to that won’t challenge thinking or your curiosity or provide you with factual information about sex.
😒
Thank you for testifying. Thank you to all who showed up!!
Thank you for being there and live updating for us who couldn’t make it!
