A matter of taste: Did Neanderthals really like sapiens women? Going by the headlines, the matter seems to be settled. El País announces that Neanderthal men "chose" sapiens women. Science journal speaks of a "partner preference." National Geographic is already i...

If you've seen some of the recent stories about sapiens women preferring Neanderthal men or vice versa, this piece does a nice job of debunking the click-bait headline:

Looking at the keywords they screened for (table 1), I’m not sure many of the subjects included in the analysis knew much at all about actual redlining. As they note, very few use the term and my experience teaching about race showed few students were aware of it.

I identified this guy as night heron, but there were also gulls, big brown pelicans fishing and swimming, Caspian terns, snowy egrets, and great blue herons including one who dared me to walk past him on the pier at Bayfront (see the other picture), a dare I didn't take!

My walking path from the parking lot at Village Point Park Nature Preserve to the pier at Bayfront Park, but not out onto the pier. Starts in the woods, drops down to the swamp, and then to the beach. Beautiful day today.

Statistically significant chuckles: who is using humour at scientific conferences? Abstract. We’ve all been there: 11.47, swamped by a long stretch of dense scientific talks at a conference. Six slides into a hyper-technical presentation,

If you have a presentation coming up soon, you might want to check out this research on the use of humor in presentations. Their finding jokes in presentations show male privilege can't come as a surprise. Humor can also help make the point stick.🧪
