most gerrymanders are republican legislators saying fuck the voters

these ones are the voters saying fuck republican legislators

Aside from who started it, states like CA and VA putting a counter-gerrymander up to a referendum, where people are told and can make a decision on the context for why it's being done, has vastly more democratic legitimacy than state legislators rushing it through because they got bullied by POTUS.

last thought, and i am still thinking through this, is that not only is there nothing wrong with this, it is something to *embrace*. a project of transformation is one way to build a political party into something closer to a political movement.

1 year ago today I was terminated by DOGE from USAID where I worked to get humanitarian aid into Gaza. Everyone I knew across almost 10 years of my career across 3 prior jobs became unemployed as well. My entire LinkedIn network suddenly became "open to work"

I'm a one issue voter. Punishment.

this is the radical, anti-establishment, and correct take. it's useful to the current sociopolitical elite if we believe that everyone is inherently terrible. we'll lower our expectations, we'll separate ourselves, we'll become selfish and hopeless.

it's not true. you'll see it as soon as you look.

It just feels like defeatism to think ‘humans are cruel’ to me

How is “viewpoint diversity” not just affirmative action for people with bad ideas

i think everybody who wasn't an adult in 2006 is unprepared for how fast and how totally they're going to pretend trump never existed

It’s so creepy that these people see major declines in teen pregnancy as a bad thing.

we want candidates who wish to salt the earth from which the MAGA cancer grew so that similar poisonous vines can never befoul the world again

One frustrating thing during the Biden presidency was it turned out that the people who had sworn up and down that they would gladly pay more for fast food to support better pay for workers, were, in fact, lying.

BARTIROMO: Do you believe the price of oil and gas will be lower before the midterm elections?

TRUMP: I hope so. I mean, I think so. It could be the same or maybe a little big higher

Impossible to disagree with a single word that Ben Rhodes (Obama era NSC official) is saying here:

people just can't help themselves when it comes to attributing some sort of planning function to trump. he keeps showing over and over that he has no idea what's going on and makes decisions for random impulsive reasons, and people just insist, "well he's really trying to do this."

I am here for messaging that the THREAT alone - regardless of if it's carried out or walked back - should end his presidency.

The die is already cast. You cannot wield the power that man has and say that kind of shit.

It’s crazy that the vice president openly intervening in a foreign election for the candidate backed by Russia ranks a distant second in insane things happening today.

Jeb was a bland personality and weak orator saddled with his brother’s baggage; Vance at his best is less appealing. He is repellent like Ted Cruz, but with the Trump stink on him as well.

I've now seen several posts from Democratic US Senators and House Reps calling for Congress to return to DC, and my only reaction to seeing these is: Do it. Just get on a plane and go back to DC. The House is in Recess, not adjourned. There was a pro forma session today. Go. Lead by example.

When the US admits that they killed any “military-aged men” who walked within 3km of a downed pilot they mean any boy lanky enough to be a teenager and any middle-aged man able to walk unaided with a cane got shot in the head for the crime of walking.

“military aged males” got normalized as a viable target for war and it’s pretty much a racialized fiction meant to justify indiscriminate murder.

“I can generalize” is Trump saying “I’m a fucken racist lalala” knowing that no national press outlet or pundit will say a goddamn thing about it.

Not one for theories of everything (other than the housing theory of everything, duh), but I do think "we undermined the material basis for patriarchy without destroying its grip on the collective imagination, thereby driving many people insane" is a sort of skeleton key to most of what's happening.

a sign of how unbalanced and skewed the US Senate is that Trump is at Herbert Hoover levels of disapproval but Dems are still only even odds to take the Senate.
