Why not something science fiction next week? #hatm
We should compare this movie to The Lives of Others. #hatm
And now all his training as a wire-tapper will come to naught when he can't find out how he - the best in the business - was himself bugged. #hatm
Final Thoughts: The Conversation is a fascinating film about the lives of wiretappers. Harry Caul is asked to record two people conversing, little knowing it would lead him to a murder. Brilliantly cast, scripted, cut, and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, it's a fascinating film. #hatm
He went out in a terrible way. His wife dying suddenly, and his advanced Altzheimer's making him unable to do anything about it. #hatm
A year apart. Hackman in 2025, Duvall in 2026. #hatm
Hackman was huge at the time having just win Best Actor for The French Connection. Duvall had a strong career as a character actor boosted by The Godfather. But Ford? He was a nobody. In time, he would out-do them by being TWO of the screen's greatest heroes: Han Solo and Indiana Jones #hatm
Wire-tapping and Catholic guilt don't mix. #hatm
Even for 1960, that's too much. #hatm
Hackman likely prepared for weeks to use the tools convincingly. #hatm
Sean Connery was in it - after Bond but before Zardoz ;) #hatm
The Jack Tar Hotel was one of San Francisco's nicer hotels when built in 1960. It had a distinctly modern appearance. It was torn down in 2013. #hatm
BTW Harrison Ford would also be in Apocalypse Now - a brief role as the general's aide. He made it just before he flew off to Britain to make that "science movie" with George Lucas. #hatm
Anderson Tapes too. #hatm
I always thought that The Parallax View had the oddest title of all time. But it was actually a good movie. #hatm
And guess who plays The Director? It's another Coppola regular. That's right! Tom Hagen himself. or Colonel Kilgore. It's the late great Robert Duvall. #hatm
Im guessing that they added the smoke effects in post-production. #hatm
Harry just doesn't know when to switch off. #hatm
one would think that secrecy was the best policy. But there are so many more ways to collect information thanks to wireless and wi-fi. #hatm
And to think that back then, tapping required actual physical devices to record conversations. Now all one needs is a few clicks on a computer. #hatm
I had a moped in high school. Death trap. Wear a helmet! #hatm
Totally! #hatm
Budding film student John Schwartzman bet his uncle and friend, both in the movies, if he beat them at backgammon, they would recommend him for film school. Uncle was Coppola, friend was Lucas. He got into school, became a cinematographer on Pearl Harbor, Seabiscuit, and others. #hatm
Stockholm is just lovely, highly recommended for many reasons. #hatm
He's very close minded. #hatm
Richard Nixon probably rued the day he installed the microphones into the Oval Office after seeing this movie. #hatm
Steve McQueen likes this scene ;) #hatm
Delivering by hand is actually a good idea. Most secure. Iran found this out recently. If they used email or text, they'd be attacked. #hatm
