I completely agree on their value! In trade unions, we use the term to highlight their vulnerability. Bad employers use the threat of visa revocation to trap them in poor conditions. That specific threat is why my union runs a migrant workers network to defend them from exploitation.

Scotland’s NHS and social care sectors simply would not function without the immense, dedicated contributions of migrant workers. We must completely decouple workplace rights from immigration status to ensure no one is trapped in precarious, exploitative conditions because they fear deportation.
Thanks! Yes, I posted my page up on there a couple of weeks ago, it's a good website.
Housing in East Kilbride.
To deliver the 80,000 new homes Scotland urgently needs over the next five years, we need a bold strategy that combines a new generation of carefully planned New Towns with smart, high-density infill housing built directly around existing transport hubs & community amenities. #scotland #eastkilbride

Though seriously thanks, it's difficult to get noticed as an independent. Letting people know I'm standing is a big help!

By establishing a fully state-owned national energy company, we can harness Scotland’s massive renewable potential to lower bills for every household. Every penny of surplus will be reinvested back into our infrastructure and our communities to ensure a secure, affordable, and green future for all.
Turns out there might actually be a constituency candidate worth voting for in EK 🤔
Who you thinking? I'm still undecided, me... 😁

UNISON general secretary Andrea Egan delivers speech to health conference calling for public funding and better pay for NHS workers. #uhealth26
Shouldn't really need saying, but if elected I would definitely not work with Reform!

Spent all day yesterday in productive negotiations that delivered a better severance process for University staff and has hopefully averted planned strike action. What Higher Education really needs though is a proper funding settlement that doesn't leave Unis educating Scottish students at a loss!
Andrea Egan, UNISON general secretary: "These changes to migration rules are cruel and unnecessary. And these figures show the economic argument is a long way from stacking up.
"Migrant workers make a huge contribution to the UK and public services would collapse without them.

Thank you for sticking up for your principles on this. ❤️
For the avoidance of doubt, following the publication of the explicitly transphobic Scottish Labour manifesto this morning, I will not be campaigning for any Scottish Labour candidates in the upcoming election, and I will not be voting Scottish Labour either.

Blessed are the peacemakers...
It will certainly be better for a united front against Russian aggression. I'm just a little frustrated I guess, I still don't like a Tory even if they're at least democratic!
It is undeniably a huge win for European democracy that Orbán has been defeated in Hungary, but be aware that the new incumbents are themselves still conservatives and no friends of the working class. Imagine Trump voted out but replaced by Boris Johnson...
Polls have closed in Hungary. A record 77.8% turnout.
No exit polls, but shouldn’t be long till the actual results roll in.
I like the Finnish/Scandinavian model, though I think it's similar? Maximalist local government, majority of frontline public services being run through local rather than national government.

Scotland currently has the largest and most centralised local authorities in Europe. We need to revitalise our local democracy by creating smaller, more localised councils that return power and accountability directly to the towns and neighborhoods they serve. #scotland #eastkilbride
For al first time voters - if you know of any in your family- make sure they are registered to vote.
We must end Scotland’s complicity in global conflict by halting all public subsidies to arms manufacturers and demanding an immediate, permanent ceasefire in Gaza, Iran, and Lebanon.

Did grab the new Greggs chicken roll this morning btw. It's not bad! Less greasy than the pork sausage roll, still herby.
There's a gap between the "national" (UK) leadership and the Scottish activist base on this. Certainly in Scotland, we are very careful to use UK-wide and Scottish instead of "national" and "regional". My union (UNISON) has a policy of tactical neutrality on independence, but many activists are pro.

I was Yes in 2014, and still Yes today! Independence is about securing the levers of power needed to harness our own abundant resources and build a fairer, more sustainable society in our own way. #indyref2 #Scotland #ScottishIndependence
