Indeed. The wisdom came in booking today and tomorrow off work to conserve energy and direct it to Bardic fun as the combo of Bottom-Oberon-Hippolyta.

Is it wise to do three performances of a one-hour panto during the day and then spend the evening doing a full run of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (For Christmas)? Asking for a friend, obviously…

My official RBL poppy pin with progress flag arrived today. I shall use the full force of my over-glasses-glare on anyone who even considers questioning it.

Impressive work.

A busy day - rehearsals in Whitstable for A Midsummer Night’s Dream (for Christmas), then games of Blood on the Clocktower in Faversham. That darned Librarian role continues to elude me in BotC.

Four different logos for The Emperor’s Clothes. Yellow is the feature colour, with other themes being an open wardrobe, a crown and peacock feathers.

Five years ago, The Emperor’s Clothes had its first opening night. I am so proud of this show, which I wrote the script for. You can listen to the songs on streaming platforms via linktr.ee/TECmusical - check out ‘A Thousand Footsteps’ in particular, which has so much to say to our current world.

Quite.

I move in theatrical circles a lot of the time, and thus often exceed my hug comfort threshold. The people who know me best will ask, though.

Four pictures of a middle aged man pointing at copies of a book called Finding and using information. Some smiles look natural, some do not.

At the end of last week, I toured the campus libraries taking s(h)elfies with my book. Because that’s perfectly normal behaviour. I discovered that even though I am an actor, I clearly do not know what to do with my face in a selfie situation.

I take on a lot of stuff. Maybe too much stuff. I had to stop doing theatre for half of last year to create the time for writing my book, yet still managed to be in 5 shows and backstage for 2 others, all crammed in to the beginning and end of 2024. However many will I manage this year???

The cover of a book called “Finding and Using Information” by David Bedford. It shows a picture of a river running through a verdant landscape.

A very happy man holds a copy of a book, looking proud as punch.

My book, “Finding and using information: a guide for nursing, health and social care”, is now out in the world, which is beyond exciting. I hope it will be useful for many health and social care students.

As a librarian (and simply as a person), the rise of mis- and more worryingly disinformation is more than a frustration, it is a genuine cause for concern. Nobody and nowhere gets it right all the time (not The Lancet, not me), but it is so important to try.

I listened to it on the way home from work yesterday. I felt sickened from far away, so I cannot imagine the fear that many in the States must be feeling today.

Current theatrical activity - I’m directing a production of Our House. We have a fantastic cast and team, and everyone is up for the challenge. This is an incredibly complex show, but great fun for audience, actors and everyone else involved.

I think I just happened to do train to supermarket in the 10 minutes of snow that the sky had stored up.

I managed to get sleet, then snow, then rain on my journey home today. Non-settling snow, but that was definitely the best of the three.
