Happy Autistic People's Month!
I want to make sure you're AWARE
Autistic people are not waiting for ACCEPTANCE
& we deserve CELEBRATION
in April, we make it clear:
Autistic people will weave our own stories
threads of lived experience we share
spun into a rich cultural tapestry
that belongs to us
Someone said in a research paper I should re-find and re-read:
[paraphrased] The greatest folly in health & medicine is that we consider optimal whatever is the statistical mean of a sample population we considered "healthy", nevermind the NT bias
read that & had to pick my jaw up off of the floor
➡️ What are the experiences, strengths & needs of autistic teachers?
➡️ How should we re-think the teacher role to be neurodiversity-inclusive?
Summary of research from the Autistic School Staff Project, with links to open access resources 👇🏻

A purple gradient graphic with three white text boxes centrally aligned. Purple text across the boxes says "Trans pupils deserve to be safe, supported and included at school. Speak up in support of trans children and young people before March 31st. scottishtrans.org/protect-trans-pupils" The Scottish Trans logo is in the bottom right hand corner.
Today is the final day to have your voice heard in a Scot Gov consultation on school's buildings regulations. Respond today & make sure the Govt understands what is needed to make sure that every single pupil can be safe, supported & included at school.

Several of Scotland's Autistic People's Organisations have put together a joint manifesto ahead of May's Scottish Parliament elections.
This is about human rights, justice and inclusion. These actions would make life better for a great many people - Autistic and not.

Weird Pride Day made it into a TV news segment yesterday on @thatstvofficial.bsky.social, thanks to @auroraconsulting.bsky.social - as far as we know, the first time we've been mentioned on telly!

“Dance is what I am. It's how I inhabit my body, and best meet the world; dancing is my main form of stim, and helps me live, rather than barely exist, in the world.” – autistic participant in the Ada study. We’re sharing results & short films on 26 March, 7pm UK time, registration link below. 🧵
If you are #autistic, come along to see if our findings resonate with you, and watch some amazing autistic dancers share their joy, and some challenges they experience. More info & link to register below. View our short trailer here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OGc... End/

For anyone who has struggled with where they belong, and whether you even want to belong. Brilliant discussion.
Tickets are still available for the @stimpunks.org + @amase.org.uk Lightning Talks in 51 minutes, and there's actually still one slot available for someone to give a talk if you're very quick...

'Monstrous Pride' with @fergus.oolong.co.uk, @drsurekhadavies.bsky.social, @kikutowne.bsky.social, Nat Paterson & Sumita Unjumbled premières at 6pm GMT (10am PST) tomorrow - in time to give a bit of a break before the Lightning Talks hosted by @amase.org.uk + @stimpunks.org.

We have more events happening for this year's Weird Pride Day (Wednesday) than we've ever had before.
@stimpunks.org and @amase.org.uk are co-hosting a round of Lightning Talks at noon PST/8pm GMT on the day, where anyone can talk for up to seven minutes on a weirdness-related theme.
I will say over and over again, you cannot have #accessibility without #diversity, #equity, and #inclusion. It just doesn't work.
Weird Pride Day is coming up next week (the 4th of March)!
@fergus.oolong.co.uk wrote a post for Edinburgh's radical bookshop, @lighthousebks.bsky.social about how it came to be, and why this year's theme is Weird Pride in a Hostile World. With many book recs!

March 4 is Weird Pride Day.
We need Weird Pride more than ever in this moment defined by mass behaviorism, rising compliance culture, and the return of unvarnished eugenics.

A surge in harassment and fear has been reported by Black and brown LGBTQI+ people following the UK supreme court’s 2025 ruling on biological sex.
Charities say people are facing increased scrutiny and abuse in public spaces.

Short as in 7 minutes or shorter.
I haven't been able to attend in a while, but I have thoroughly enjoyed these sessions in the past. Hope to return soon!
While we would go futher in avoiding the pathologisation of neurodivergent people, in many respects we are broadly aligned with the Royal College of Psychiatrists' proposals on supporting neurodevelopmental people in Scotland.
