@amymayforrester.bsky.social Hi Amy. It sounds like you work in a school similar to mine, with many children from rural backgrounds. I wonder how your school engages these students and motivates them to try in class? We have some who do not see school as important because they have their careers set

I watched this last night but completely missed this bit!?
I do tend to do little discussion work because I find it incredibly difficult to manage the off-task talk that always starts creeping in. I don't stop a student helping someone else, unless I'm talking to the class as a whole then I'll ask them to wait a minute.
Thank you, I do appreciate this and follow your developments with interest!
We do, however our school in in a budget crisis with redundancies etc so I'm afraid we don't have capacity to buy anything in unfortunately
Yes the first, we taught through Welsh
Thank you, I was reading this last night but unfortunately we're not an English-medium school
You're starting from scratch with 5 yr SOW, rolling out one year at a time, starting with yr 7. How do you approach this to maximise chances for success? @jemmaths.bsky.social @mathsjem.bsky.social @justmaths.bsky.social @arithmaticks.bsky.social @studymaths.bsky.social @krisboulton.bsky.social
I have never helt so heartsore reading a book.
I recognise the first a WRM question that you have then adapted in how you present (second slide). Do you use these resources in your dept?
Trying to think of a nice (CHEAP) little prize for students who complete our times tables programme. Any ideas?
Jemma I really appreciate the time you've taken to respond and the wisdom you've shared! Certainly something to mull over during half term. Thank you.
Some feeling they don't think it has an impact. Others perhaps it's more to cram into a lesson. Would you provide a vocab list at the start of a unit, rather than getting students to write definitions down as they come up? I think that would free up some time for the drilling
Both! Mostly staff.
Key vocab! How do you deal with? We have a 'unit vocabulary' sheet that students glue into books and fill in as we go- feels clunky. As a school, we 'drill' vocab every lesson (choral response). This hasn't got 100% buy in yet @justmaths.bsky.social @resourceaholic.bsky.social @jemmaths.bsky.social
How do we teach efficient methods? I have students who automatically go to bus stop for any division, including times table inverses e.g. I had a girl today use bus stop for 24 ÷ 12
Of course. I suppose which ones will be the biggest bang for their buck? We don't have sufficient tech in school to use interactive ones.
If you had a limited budget for manipulatives for a department, what would you spend it on? @mrmattock.bsky.social @studymaths.bsky.social
Interested to see if any schools in Wales take it up!
Heyo! I have a meeting with area leaders on numeracy across the curriculum. What are high-performing departments doing here? I want to avoid any shoe-horning! @mathsjem.bsky.social
How do they get on with using the mark schemes for themselves?
Just for home please
@numberclub.com hey! I have tried downloading your app to use with my son through Google Play and it said it was made for an older version of Android. Is there a work around?
Taking over as KS3 lead from Sept. My head is spinning with where to start. Any advice? I've settled on developing retrieval do nows and mapping out the topics that need to be covered.
I’ve kept every single one. I call it my “don’t quit teaching” folder.
Give a card. Say something nice. Don’t lie.
With treasure tags? Do you see a difference in cost?
Does anyone use oversized exercise books in maths? Trying to tackle time spent by dept trimming down a4 worksheets and also just scrappy books in general! Moving away from booklets of WRM worksheets this year at KS3
@mathsjem.bsky.social ?
@charlottehawthorne.bsky.social hi Charlotte, interested to know if your dept still follow WRM?
Thank you, I have ordered your book for the holidays!
This is a very sensible suggestion! Manic shared drives are a nightmare
