I thank G-d every day for making me trans. If I wasn't, I would probably have ended up just like my father: a rich, racist, pathetic man with nothing but grievances.

Yes, my life has been harder than his. It's also been so, SO much better. And I like myself so much better this way.

Trauma may shape us. It may inform who we are. But it is not ALL of who we are. We are not caricatures of pain. We are not our dysphoria. We are whole people, who love and laugh and bleed and cry and feel. And being trans is an incredibly beautiful thing to be.

I have all the right parts now and with them I have amazing sex with the hottest woman on this planet. I have a fucking amazing life. Yes, that's a privilege. I'm still going to celebrate it because it's a privilege trans people aren't supposed to have.

Joy can be resistance. And I don't mean that in the "let's throw a party" sense. I mean that in the "there is more to us than suffering" sense. I wake up every morning next to the love of my life. I'm a whole freaking LAWYER.

But I'm sick of our lives being nothing but trauma porn for cis consumption. Yeah, I tried cutting off my genitalia at 8 years old. Yeah, my GI surgeon is absolutely convinced that stress from my childhood made my Crohn's worse.

Guess what? I'm still a happy trans adult.

Over the past few days, I've received some messages from people who think I'm being too positive about the trans experience. They think I should focus more on how much dysphoria sucks, or how much suffering there is and can be as a result of it.

Look, I get it. Dysphoria almost killed me. I GET IT.
