President Trump has publicly admitted that the more Americans vote in 2026, the worse off Republicans will be. As the cost of both the war in Iran and gas in America skyrocket, Trump’s approval has cratered to historical lows. Faced with the potential for massive and embarrassing losses in the midterms, Trump is now trying to erect as many unnecessary barriers as possible to voting, with the goal of disenfranchising millions of Americans who are tired of his incompetence, corruption, and cruelty. This is an attack on our democracy, plain and simple.
Republicans don’t care about voter fraud. This is the arsonist trying to cosplay as a firefighter. Donald Trump personally called election officials in Georgia and demanded that they “find” him 11,000 more votes in 2020, attempting the greatest voter fraud in our nation’s history. Trump pardoned every insurrectionist who participated in the January 6th riot on our nation’s Capitol, the gravest attack on our democracy since the Civil War. The idea that Trump could be trusted with determining the rules for our elections is as laughable as it is terrifying.
Trump’s recent Executive Order to restrict mail-in voting is not only unconstitutional, but a blatant attack on our election system.
As the author of CA’s universal vote-by mail law, I’m appalled, but not surprised, by these attempts to undermine our democracy & disenfranchise millions of voters.
