This past week, I had the pleasure of participating in the 4th Global Soil Biodiversity Conference 2026. What an amazing array of specialists and excellent presentations! Canβt wait to attend the next edition! Big thanks to @thegsbi.bsky.social and everyone involved!

Our group experienced a major permafrost slump just across the river from where we were paddling on a northern stretch of the Horton River (northern Canada) some years back. Frightening and dramatic indeed.

Excited to attend the ribbon-cutting for the next segment of Californiaβs solar canal initiative later this month in Hickman. Imagine generating solar power over 4,000 miles or so canals across the state. A lot of Sierra and Colorado River water to save via avoided evaporation.
Why flower with the summer crowd when you can get a jump on the competition in spring? Being precocious comes with advantages and disadvantages. Learn more in todayβs post!

I came home from my choir concert (at almost 9 pm, yay light!) to find this little Sharp-shinned Hawk chasing the Redpolls. And once the SSHAs arrive, can the juncos be far behind? #migration #birds #Yukon
Seven years after a coalition of Manitoba First Nations formed to protect the Seal River Watershed, government has signed on to a historic joint proposal to protect the richly biodiverse ecosystem.

We cannot thank you all enough for coming out, providing fantastic presentations, making connections, and keeping soil biodiversity at the forefront of ecological research (in our completely unbiased opinion) πͺ±
Safe travels home & see you all real soon!
After big dams on the upper Klamath River in far northern CA were removed in 2024, Chinook (king) salmon migrated upstream for the first time in 100+ years--and now they have hatched.
#Taxonomy friends, I'm searching for generic revisions that include treatments without a nomenclatural act - e.g. a species listed for completeness with only a diagnosis + remarks. Anyone have good examples? #bugsky

What frustrates me about conversations about the grand bargain of Pathways/CCS for a west coast pipeline is that they assume CCS projects will actually work at scale. AFAIK, there is no evidence that this is true. www.cbc.ca/listen/live-...
