Six panel comic

P1: a dog in the foreground, from the neck up, stares open-mouthed at a black cat lying atop a fence in the background.

P2: one of those symbols that you see in 3D programs that denotes the X,Y, and Z axes appears on the top corner of the dog, transforming them into a 3D shape

P3: the same again, only now with the cat

P4: back to the normal 2D panel seen in P1

P5: the symbol appears on the bottom right corner of the panel itself. Now 3D --with the original art now a 2D plane in its outer surface-- it begins to open outward

P6: it opens even more, revealing some... thing behind it.

CANIFF. OTOMO. GOLDEN. Tracing the roots of cartoony heads on realistic bodies, a tradition I first saw articulated by Frank Springer (in a talk about Frank Robbins).

You don’t choose style dissection as a lifestyle, it chooses you.
