On the personal side, it's been so fun deep diving into the small but beautifully interdisciplinary T4T academic literature. If anyone wants to talk T4T, I'm all ears, so please reach out! Also happy to hear any feedback on the pre-print! ✨ (END)

And while exclusive attraction or interest in other trans people was definitely true for some of our participants, it wasn’t the ONLY way people understood their T4T attraction. This, and other ways trans people made meaning of their T4T attraction, is discussed further in the pre-print. (3)
We use qualitative content analysis to explore what meaning (if any) trans people assign to their T4T attraction. And (gasp) meanings varied! This was interesting since T4T has a common connotation meaning exclusive attraction to or interest in other trans people. (2)
SO EXCITED to share this work (with the lovely @queersian.bsky.social, @cq-n.bsky.social, and @johnsakaluk.bsky.social) on trans-for-trans (T4T) attraction! In short, T4T is a label used by trans people to denote romantic/sexual attraction to other trans people.

Personally I think "You have one shot at an academic career and too bad if that happens during a world-historical collapse in research funding" is maybe not a great long-term professional incentive structure
🏳️⚧️ TRANS RIGHTS 🏳️⚧️
1. This weekend, a federal judge permanently blocked funding threats to providers and hospitals that provide trans youth care.
The judge also blocked "any similar policy."
Hospitals have NO excuse and must return to providing care under many blue state laws.

Breaking: HHS’s ban on gender-affirming care is struck down. Rarely have I read a ruling this sharply worded.
“This case is one of a long list of examples of how a leader’s wanton disregard for the rule of law causes very real harm to very real people.”

Chiitan loves all transgender people.
I've received a lot of criticism for expressing my support, but what's more important is that all transgender people live happy lives.
Blue Sky cannot display long posts, so please read this post if you'd like.

Thanks to the PsyArXiv moderators for their speedy review!
Freely available to any who want to read about the many ways in which the oft-cited literature on desistance spectacularly fails to support the claim of widespread desistance

New publication alert! After four years of analysis, synthesis, and careful writing, I am pleased to announce a brand-new article, “Desistance”: A Multimethod Review of the Literature on Gender Identity Variability in Transgender and Gender Diverse Youth (1) 🧵

Oh, that’s so cute
The clinical irrelevance of "desistance" research for transgender and gender creative youth, written by Florence Ashley
A critical commentary on follow-up studies and "desistance" theories about transgender and gender-nonconforming children by Newhook et al.
The "80% Desistance" Dictum: Is it Science?, by Kelly Winters
Detransition, Desistance, and Disinformation: A guide for Understanding Transgender Children Debates, by Julia Serano
Importantly, we are not the first to question the numbers behind desistance claims. In trans circles, it’s called the “Desistance Myth.” Other scholars (esp. Temple-Newhook et al., 2018, Ashley, 2019; Serano; Winters) have questioned the relevance and accuracy of the data behind these claims (5)
Even if we did know about the desistance rate, it wouldn’t be practically relevant or even particularly informative about whether or not TGE care should be legal for youth or for any individual youth’s care (24)
Rather, we don’t have enough information to actually say how many transgender and gender diverse youth persist in their identity—whether one eyeballs the literature and blogs about it, or conducts a formal meta-analysis. The dataset is too small and inconsistent to yield informative guidance (23)
However “desistance” is conceptualized, it should not form the basis of clinical or legal decision-making. This does not mean that people who stop identifying as transgender, or who detransition, do not exist! (22)
If you are familiar with the claim that most transgender youth will "desist', please read, and consider sharing.
@catherinesjwall.com, @ghawinriver.bsky.social and I are very proud of this work.
Nice clear presentation of commonplace meta-analysis failure mode: Pooling coefficients that mean different things, because original models had different adjustment sets. A coefficient gets its meaning from the whole model, not just from the predictor variable it multiplies.

I'm looking for a good resource on the implications on psychometric properties and response patterns when using Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree vs Never/Rarely/Sometimes/Often/Always Likert scales on surveys. Anyone have anything I should read?

It’s amazing how many topics and research areas largely just boil down to attitude valence.
Yeah so he is just going to keep doing the thing where we are in a constant state of uncertainty, confusion, stress, and tension because that is what abusive people do and the people who are in a position to address this are asleep at the switch.
