As much as I agree that a policy like Australias mandatory votes would be a good idea you deflect from candidates responsibility to their constituents.

A candidate who fails to draw votes has responsibility. Constituents who do not feel represented can absolutely, legally not vote for them.

And candidates are responsible for their platforms. If they don't meet a basic moral need of their constituent there is no drive to vote. Either solution is intolerable.

Biden and the dnc had power for 4 years to stop this from coming back and they didn't do it.
