Palestinian jewelry tells stories the history books canβt. The weight of coins on a brideβs headdress, Hebronβs old glass bracelets still shimmering. Each piece is a fragment of memory, enduring through millennia.

What a wonderful project, congratulations! Iβm especially curious if trade beads and their journeys might make an appearance in your work.
Born where volcano meets sea, larimar is the Dominican Republicβs hidden jewel... a rare blue stone found nowhere else in the world. Its soft waves of turquoise and white feel like wearing a piece of Caribbean sky. π

Extraordinary! These insects are set in gold like emeralds. Nature never stops giving us strange and exquisite materials to work with...if weβre willing to see them.

An eight-pointed floral shaped gold box inlaid with a phoenix and Taoist symbols in turquoise.
This beautiful box dates from 18th century China. It resembles a six-petaled flower, and features a phoenix and eight symbols of Taoist immortals inlaid with turquoise.
Two ancient sculpted stone eyes with lapis lazuli for pupils float above a mesopotamian landscape of water and palm trees.
The deep blue of lapis has carried meaning for millennia. In They Stole Our Eyes, my friend Hala Al-Salman reclaims that ancient gaze. It reminds me why Iβm drawn to old stones... for the stories theyβve witnessed.

A photograph of a pair of Roman earrings made of gold and glass suspended from a grey display stand against a grey background. Part of the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago. Each earring is made of a hollow spherical ball of gold, surmounted by an inset circle of deep-blue glass, which mimics the semi-precious blue stone lapis lazuli. Earring height 4.5cm. Gold ball diameter 2 cm. Gold ball jewellery was popular amongst the Roman elite during the 1st century AD. Over ninety examples of gold ball and disc type jewellery have been excavated from the area of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
A pair of 2,000 year-old Roman earrings. Gold and glass.
A simple yet stylish design with timeless appeal!

Ancient blue Roman intaglio, engraved with the figure of a nude male in motion, shown in profile. The figure holds a round object in one hand and appears to be stepping forward. The surface is weathered and encrusted with earth, but the engraving remains discernible. The stone has a rich blue hue with lighter and darker streaks, set against a plain white background.
Tiny but powerful, this Roman intaglio is carved from lapis lazuliβa stone already prized for millennia by the time it was buried in Britain. The figure engraved on its face is Harpocrates, god of silence and secrecy, often associated with protection and mystery in Roman-Egyptian religion.
