Happy to share the final version of @oliviamghosh.bsky.social's paper on inferring low dimensional phenotype-fitness maps from high-throughput fitness measurements across environments. Fun collaboration with @oliviamghosh.bsky.social, @grantkinsler.bsky.social, & @petrovadmitri.bsky.social
A question for biologists: we often talk about evolutionary novelty. What does “novelty” mean for you? What’s your favorite definition if any? Or just a rule of thumb for what is and isn’t novel.

Very cool work based on an amazing long term study of bighorn sheep: No Pedigree, No Problem: Genomic Inbreeding Tracks Genetic Rescue With High Resolution - Mitchell et al: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
Many journals require data and code sharing. Yet code is still rarely shared and datasets are often hard to reuse.
Our new paper introduces the @sortee.bsky.social guidelines for data & code quality control in ecology & evolution, developed by 26 experienced data editors.

A beauty!
Congratz to you and your team!!! Very cool paper 🥳
Canada’s wild salmon are more than a symbol. And while the Wild Salmon Policy is meant to protect them,@ubcpelagic.bsky.social shows that rapid ocean change is testing whether policy and management can keep up when new threats appear. oceans.ubc.ca/2026/02/26/w...
One study investigated the native range of a planthopper used against invasive water hyacinth. They show 3 lineages shaped by ancient climate shifts & river basins with ongoing gene flow. This helps select the best populations for release in the US & South Africa 🌿🧬

So I pleased to announce the conceptual spawn of FigTree: PearTree (acronym still to be finalised). If you want to dive right in it is hosted as a web app here: artic-network.github.io/peartree (click the “Example...” button for immediate candy and then click every button you can find).
Does conservation peeps have thoughts on this recent preprint?

In February 1926, the very first issue of ICES Journal of Marine Science was published!
A century later, our Journal still goes from strength to strength!
How do we know our research results are REAL? We replicate them! Most folks agree but lament on how hard it is to publish these replications.
My dearest gentle reader, lament no more! Delighted to unveil: Replication Studies, a new section of Behavioral Ecology 1/

That’s ok, no problem! I love you work, very inspiring 😊
Are you selling prints?

Delineation of conservation units and assessments of pop. vulnerability are key to protection of intraspecific diversity. A new study shows why multiple vulnerability measures and accounting for high levels of population differentiation are key to Arctic charr conservation 🐟 @thefentagon.bsky.social
Excited to share our new paper on Pacific cod. We used GTseq to track movement of adults and juveniles. Adults from southern stocks move large distances into the Northern Bering sea to feed. Additionally, we showed that juveniles can move > 1000 km from where they were born. tinyurl.com/mryrz5j7
I'm excited to share that our preprint is now available on bioRxiv! Our study challenges the widespread use of molecular genetic diversity as a predictor adaptive potential, with important implications for how genetic data is used to inform conservation decisions.

Are we closing in on the dream of importing a single R package for genomic analysis? 🤓
Graphic advertising a talk for the Coregoning Science Webinar through the Great Lakes Fish Commission and the USGS. The talk title is “Genomic insights into population structure and sex determination in Great Lakes Ciscoes” given by Kristen Behrens (University of Michigan) on Jan. 9th, 2026 at 12:30PM EST. It includes a photo of the presenter at a table with a bunch of cisco drawings spread out and a trifold board with information on ciscoes.
For those interested in Great Lakes fish (or what I’ve been up to so far in my postdoc) I will be giving a talk for the Coregonine Science Webinar on Friday, January 9th at 12:30 EST! bit.ly/010926
