A question for biologists: we often talk about evolutionary novelty. What does “novelty” mean for you? What’s your favorite definition if any? Or just a rule of thumb for what is and isn’t novel.

Many journals require data and code sharing. Yet code is still rarely shared and datasets are often hard to reuse.

Our new paper introduces the @sortee.bsky.social guidelines for data & code quality control in ecology & evolution, developed by 26 experienced data editors.

One study investigated the native range of a planthopper used against invasive water hyacinth. They show 3 lineages shaped by ancient climate shifts & river basins with ongoing gene flow. This helps select the best populations for release in the US & South Africa 🌿🧬

Excited to share our new paper on Pacific cod. We used GTseq to track movement of adults and juveniles. Adults from southern stocks move large distances into the Northern Bering sea to feed. Additionally, we showed that juveniles can move > 1000 km from where they were born. tinyurl.com/mryrz5j7

I'm excited to share that our preprint is now available on bioRxiv! Our study challenges the widespread use of molecular genetic diversity as a predictor adaptive potential, with important implications for how genetic data is used to inform conservation decisions.
