Most of the modern hotels have air but a lot don't. Just check to be sure. And it is a "wet" heat. But Rome is a really great city. You will have fun regardless!

Big issue with Rome in August is most places don’t have air conditioning.

I highly recommend the First Law and Age Of Madness trilogies by Joe Abercrombie. Both printed form and audiobooks are outstanding. They may very well be the best fantasy series I have read in the last 40 years.
