Jamal Khashoggi’s plight & murder was a warning sign for the US, of impending loss of freedom & censorship that would sweep the country (11/18/25) www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
"In 2025, 40% of women aged 15 to 44 say they would move abroad permanently if they had the opportunity. The current figure is four times higher than the 10% who shared this desire in 2014, when it was generally in line with other age and gender groups."
Welch: "This has nothing to do with the shutdown. The law requires and the funds are available to continue SNAP right now without any interruption. So that is a decision the president is making on his own to allow people to go hungry."
The U.S. Forest Service has for decades ignored recommendations from its own scientists to monitor how much toxic smoke firefighters breathe. To find out how harmful the air gets, our reporters followed crews to the frontlines of a wildfire.
Mad you have to do a bunch of non-book-writing work as an author? Yeah, we all are. But you still have to do it even if you don't get "paid" to do so.

I gave my heart and soul to that place. Built entire sections for journalists pushed out of their home countries.
When the writer I hired, Jamal Khashoggi was murdered by Saudi Arabia, they paraded me around as a symbol for press freedom.
I put MY LIFE on the line to defend journalism and WaPo.
Signs bearing President Trump’s name have gone up at major construction projects. They were financed by the 2021 bipartisan infrastructure law which he passionately opposed ahead of its passage.
Former US ambassador to Hungary: "After years watching Hungary suffocate under the weight of its democratic collapse, I came to understand that the real danger of a strongman isn’t his tactics; it’s how others, especially those with power, justify their acquiescence." (h/t @bnovak.bsky.social)
Anyone concerned that America will quietly succumb to fascism should look at what's happening in LA. This whole thread is wonderful
If the United States decides to declare war on its own people, so be it. They can't defeat an insurgency overseas and they can't defeat one here
I met him a couple times when he was running for governor, he was definitely shorter than 5'11 but made good-natured jokes about it (I imagine he sees surprised reactions a lot). A very tall man stood to ask him a question and he joked, "I told my staff not to let anyone in taller than me!"
If you like book stuff and despise the ignorant and hate-filled anti-trans rhetoric of this blighted nation, check out the auction! There's some great stuff still going amazingly cheap, including editing, sensitivity reads and science consultation, as well as a ton of signed books and goodies.
Good to know thank you! I wish this country wasn't being so hateful to Canada right now, I wouldn't blame them for hoarding all that cheesy goodness to themselves 😭
Also, Trader Joe's white cheddar popcorn has had a similar decline. It barely even tastes cheesy anymore, just vaguely salty.
This is so validating, thank you for your service. Does anyone know if the formula is the same for Smartfood sold in Canada? I had it there once and I swear it was markedly cheesier with a stronger flavor. This was many years ago though.
an archival black and white photograph of the KKK marching in Washington DC with the capitol behind them
In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

My husband's step-grandma, Cab Calloway's daughter, was an incredible woman and a pillar of the Baltimore community. Rest in power.
America needs leopard journalists now.
Journalists dedicated to showing Trump voters that the leopard always eats your face even when he promises not to.
The amount of staggering, life-altering pain Trump voters will have to experience to wean themselves off him is extraordinary.
But it's coming.

The responsibility for resisting and correcting this behavior shouldn’t fall solely on a specific gender. If you’re a man of conscience and you see another man mimicking Nick Fuentes, fuck him up on sight before the women even get a chance. I mean that.
at the risk of sounding flippant, Americans should genuinely consider a catchy little rhyme about what happened on Jan 6th, because some of y’all forgot WAY too quickly about the failed slaughter of YOUR government, whereas we still celebrate ours 418 years later
