The Trump admin has begun refunding companies—not American households—tariff costs.
The tariffs raised Americans’ costs by thousands of dollars, were deemed illegal by the Supreme Court, and now corporations, not American families, are getting money back.

Big retailers like Walmart and Target are set to get refunds from the Trump admin for tariffs that were deemed illegal by the Supreme Court.
What about the American people who paid a substantial portion of those tariff costs?
They get nothing.
The Trump administration has been boasting about tax refunds this year.
But this year, when you include Trump’s tariffs (which are a tax) and tax credits he eliminated, the bottom 95% of Americans are projected to pay more in taxes, while the top 5% will receive net tax cuts.
Trump has sued the government—the government that he is currently in charge of—for $10B and his lawyers are working to settle the suit.
That $10B would be taxpayer money if paid out.
Brazen corruption.
Americans sent us to Congress to fight for them. Instead, Republicans are fighting for Trump.
It’s been another fruitless week in Washington under Republican leadership. The Department of Homeland Security is still shut down, gas prices remain high, and Congress has done nothing to prevent further military action in Iran.
Trump’s tariffs have raised Americans' costs by thousands of dollars. Many were deemed illegal by the Supreme Court. Now the Trump admin is refunding the companies, but not American households.
Corporations get their money back. Families don't.
Trump’s own Department of Energy is expecting average gas prices to rise to $4.30/gal in the next few weeks and then stay elevated above $3.70/gal for the rest of the year.
Prices are high. People are struggling. And it’s all because of Trump’s decision to go to war with Iran.
Trump just said his lavish ballroom is a “Great Gift to America” and “deeply important to our National Security.”
What planet does this guy live on?
Taken together, these two misguided policies will cost households on average over $3200 in 2026.
That’s $3,200 in higher costs compared to a $346 tax refund.
Trump and Republicans promised to put money back in people’s pockets. Instead, their policies will cost Americans even more.
That’s because in their first year, Trump’s tariffs have cost households $1700 on average, and that’s expected to rise to $2500 in 2026.
On top of that, Trump’s war with Iran is expected to cost households and extra $740 this year due to higher gas prices.
To deal with rising costs, Trump and Republicans promised to put money back in people’s pockets through tax cuts.
The average household tax refund has increased by $346 this year.
That’s not nothing—but it’s far from what was promised.
Jackie Robinson broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier 79 years ago today, reshaping the sport and opening doors far beyond the field.
Back in 2022, I had the honor of hosting his granddaughter at the Capitol while Jackie’s rookie season jersey and bat were on display.
We depend on our farmers to put food on our tables. From tariffs to wars, Trump has abandoned them every step of the way.
Trump’s aimless war in Iran has devastated our farmers.
Farmers were already struggling with increased costs in recent years. Now Trump’s war in Iran has dialed that up further. Many are now worried they won’t be able to keep doing the work they love.
A few weeks ago, Trump’s Secretary of Energy said there was a “good chance” gas prices would go down by summer.
Now he’s saying that’s no longer likely, and they may even continue to go up.
The Trump admin keeps shifting the timeline for their war in Iran, and Americans will keep paying the price.
Instead, they are pushing a partisan bill that would continue funding Trump’s mass deportation effort with no strings attached.
This is what Republicans in Congress are focused on—making sure ICE and CBP can operate without additional oversight—not doing anything to lower costs or stop Trump’s war.
The Department of Homeland Security has now been shut down for 59 days.
Republicans could have worked with Democrats weeks ago on a bipartisan bill that made commonsense reforms to ICE and CBP that the American people overwhelmingly support.
Tomorrow is Tax Day.
Make sure you have paid and filed your taxes or have requested an extension if you need one.
Farmers in South Carolina and across the country were already struggling. Trump’s war has only made it worse.
In the South, 81% of farms—including 84% of small farms—didn’t pre-book fertilizer, meaning they’re now stuck paying rapidly rising prices.
78% of Southern farmers say they can’t afford the fertilizer inputs they need this season.
58% of farmers nationwide say they’re worse off than a year ago.
Trump has abandoned our farmers with his senseless war in Iran. The impact is worst in the South.
Diesel prices are up 46% since the war began. Nitrogen fertilizer is up 30%.
Trump posted this insulting picture last night depicting himself as Jesus, after calling the Pope “terrible” for opposing his war in Iran.
He’s since deleted it and now claims he thought it showed him as a “doctor”, which is of course a lie.
The president is completely unhinged.
For anyone hoping gas prices will come down soon, Trump admitted that price could be the same or higher six months from now.
Trump launched this senseless war without any concern for what it would mean for the American people, who were already struggling to make ends meet.
Housing is expensive for everyone. We need a President and leaders in Congress who will fight to bring housing costs down. Instead, Trump and Republican congressional leaders are more interested in fighting senseless wars.
While the law was effective in combating the worst discriminatory practices, today the Black homeownership gap is wider than it was in 1968.
Today marks 58 years since the Civil Rights Act of 1968 was signed into law by Lyndon B. Johnson, prohibiting discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing.
It combated practices like redlining, which denied Black Americans access to mortgages and homeownership.
Americans’ confidence in the economy has officially reached its lowest level on record under President Trump.
This isn’t surprising. I hear from folks across South Carolina. They are not happy with their financial situation under Trump.
Inflation accelerated to the highest level in 2 years last month because of Trump’s war with Iran.
Trump promised to bring down inflation. Instead, now it’s higher than when he took office last year.
Doesn’t seem like an administration very focused on the issues facing the American people, if you ask me.
