without saying the year, show me a doll that came out the year you were born! #dollsky

i said it before and i'll say it again- i hope monica lewinsky's having an incredible week right now.
yknow... the epstein emails revealing that there is allegedly photographic evidence that the current sitting US president has given oral sex to a past US president was not on my bingo card for 2025.
Anyways, I hope Monica Lewinsky's having an incredible week.
im listening to the audiobook of the ABC murders for an assignment and i think its high time we got more poirot adaptations where he and captain hastings are a proper couple. it would not be a big departure for those two to go from "long term roommates" to "✨️long term roommates💅" iykwim
i just had my feelings hurt by a 50-something year old tv show and it hurts worse because unlike tv these days it actually went out of its way to hurt me on purpose instead of hurting me with disappointing writing
anyways i just finished season 3 of MASH and will be booking therapy about it
a screenshot showing three curated lists from the australian broadcast streaming app, "SBS On Demand." The lists are entitled "Nordic Noir," "Nordic Not Noir," and "Noir Not Nordic"
i love how sbs on demand sorts its content
Tumblr post, original user's handle cropped out. Text reads "hey quick question why did no one ever tell me how fucking insane M*A*S*H is? their commanding officer is a horse girl. the secretary has psychic powers. this guy walks around a 1950s military outpost in drag and everyones just like hey nice dress. the protagonist who is supposed to be the best surgeon in the entire korean war spends every episode strutting around drunk in a hawaiian shirt making homoerotic wisecracks and asking the nurses to step on him like some sort of unhinged bisexual jimmy buffet. guys what the hell is going on in this army doctor show" reply from user dogsagainstsynergists: "That is just how the Army is."
Gonna be lazy and cap this tangent off with a screenshot from tumblr. I cant find the original post to give OP their proper credit, but whoever they are, they definitely nailed the vibe of the show.
MASH is "the horrors persist but we stay silly" the series, its progressive even by todays standards, and despite the occasional airball in cultural portrayals, it has great moral principles which it sticks to- that human beings all fundamentally deserve dignity.
In more tv adventures ive been watching MASH and i can confidently say that a good 90-ish% of the episodes all still hold up today, and that if anyone else is experiencing The Horrors of world events, you should absolutely watch it.
we now have three copies of that book in the house (i will absolutely be yoinking one to take home) and i got to teach my grandparents about the words "rizz," "lock in," and "torment nexus" in return. cross-generational linguistic exchange is wonderful and we should do it more often.
my grandparents gifted my brother a copy of brewer's dictionary of phrase and fable this week, which is a must-have for anyone who enjoys playing around with words and idioms. i love internet phrases and idioms, i love memes, and that book really shows that linguistics is also a flat circle
First of all, Big, smoking cigars has never been cool. Second of all, Samantha, you dodged a bullet.
UUUUUUGH MR BIG. I thought we'd get more of a reprieve for antics before he showed up. Wild that "the next donald trump" was considered a compliment back in 1998, and a bitter insult in 2025. Everything I know about this guy is from pop culture osmosis and I'm already on board to hate this guy.
"soft wet eyed nerdy boy who gives off heavy "got called gay in high school" vibes" is a lot of people's type. Carrie is setting him up with Miranda though, despite knowing shes gonna hate him. Baffling choice.
Skipper, one of Carrie's season 1 friends, is a curly haired 20-something keith haring type who is struggling to get romantic dates because of hookup culture. My first impression- if this season took place in 2025 and he managed to avoid being eaten by the manosphere, i guarantee he'd have takers.
Anyways this is gonna become my SATC thread where I dump my thoughts about it. Its high time I watched it, and because i'm doing a uni subject about pop culture, i might even be able to milk this for a grade!
Granted, she sounds like an aussie who went to private school (no judgement, so did i) so i guess thats probably not clockable to a north american audience, but I noticed IMMEDIATELY. Its like that north american loon call in nosferatu (2024) and i cant un-notice it.
i'm watching sex and the city for an assignment (you heard me) and the first episode opens with carrie telling a story about an english journalist who gets jilted by an investment banker and the actress playing that english journalist sounds like a whole aussie.
ive started watching midsomer murders (from season 1, which is almost as old as i am) while i recover from covid and while its nothing to write home about in terms of cinematography the writing is what BBC sherlock wishes it was. now THATS a good fuckin murder mystery
on the plus side, my housemates cats are very good nurses
this is the first time ive ever had covid- ever. finally got me after five years of never having had it. I went in to get my covid booster a few days back and the nurse told me i didnt need it for another two months. what are the odds.
FUCK
if anyone else on this godforsaken webbed site has also finished the video, please contact me because i need someone to hate the billionaire bumpkin comics from the 70's with
i finished watching the quinton reviews beverly hillbillies video reupload. Its 42 hours long, and its A PART ONE. Theres gonna be a SECOND one talking about greenacres. Im losing my mind. I am forever changed. I need a winston.
I want to encourage people to view the past as not just a clipshow of the best and worst of times to be either recreated or disowned, but a toolbox to build a better life with with your friends and peers. We can only go forward. /🧵
I would rather not see the eugenicist and sexist ideas of the late 19th and early 20th century be revived in the 21st, but yknow what I would like to see come back? Unions. And spending wealth on public spaces like museums, recreation spaces, and performance venues. And public transit.
We can also deconstruct the violent colonialism and workplace health and safety nightmare of life before the 20th century while acknowledging that they had a point about slow fashion and minimising household waste.
One of the things I love most about history, from the distant past to ~20 years recent, is that we can interact with it in a way that enriches our present. We can simultaneously deconstruct harmful 2000s brainrot while also reviving the eras ideas about tech that would make our lives better today.
I had the most fun of my life as a kid in the 2000s, even though I was also exposed to stuff i really shouldnt have at that age. Luckily, so did a lot of other folks, and if we can bond over reality tv, flash games, and aesthetics, we might just have a shot at healing as a community.
