But it's tough to argue that this place has proper direction now.
At the same time, I like the work his wife, Anna, did for the foundation. Good educational visualization works to understand how people live in other countries.
I am still annoyed at Ola R. for "we can't ask people to stay home or we become totalitarian pumpkins" stuff at the start of the pandemic and I got told to "go home where you come from" in his FB comments during the time (not by him).
When I was at Google, it acquired the viz team from Gapminder (some nice people) and Trendalyzer sodtware but in the end, most of it didn't end up getting actively used, but the engineers stuck around on other projects for a while.

Sad to see Gapminder lending credibility to this all.

Ah I see that Palantir has gone full mask off social darwinism
Translation: If JD Vance (Peter Thiel) & MAGA are in control after 2028 they will try to *force* our children to serve in the military to implement their Manifest Destiny BS: “We should…seriously consider moving away from an all-volunteer force...” x.com/palantirtech...
Contemplating how much I'd get scored down in my epi classes for doing this.

A majority “strongly disapprove.”

Just 🤬 peachy.
So if someone opts in, and has taken photos of friends, relatives, kids, even strangers, they’re “giving permission” on behalf of all those people. So lots of people have no say in this.
The whole “opt in” thing was always a charade but it’s approaching terminal nonsense at this point.

There's a pattern that seems to recur every generation or so: the Money Bros get tired/bored of regulated financial activities and either find or invent some new *unregulated* space to fuck around in, until it all very predictably comes crashing down around them and it threatens the world economy.
Screenshotted excerpt from linked article reading as follows: "In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan to address the global climate crisis. When colleagues warned the chief justice that he was proposing an unprecedented move, he was dismissive. “I recognize that the posture of this stay request is not typical,” he wrote. But he argued that the Obama plan, which aimed to regulate coal-fired plants, was “the most expensive regulation ever imposed on the power sector,” and too big, costly and consequential for the court not to act immediately."
OOP
New York Times got receipts on John Roberts being like, 'I know this isn't how anything works, but a Democratic president is about to implement a policy!!'

BAFTA pulling a trailer for an autobiographical game about surviving sexual assault only hours before it was said to be a part of a showcase is an exceptionally bad look.
The Schrödinger's Straight is still at it.
