The Keep Public Funds in Public Schools Act, introduced by @captmarkkelly.bsky.social repeals Trump’s private school voucher scam. Taxpayer dollars should strengthen public schools, not weaken them.
Yesterday, ELC Senior Attorney Liz Athos delivered oral argument before the NJ Appellate Division arguing that the State has failed to correct unlawful removals of students with disabilities from public schools in violation of federal and state law. Decision expected later this year.

Graphic saying, "A clear challenge to implementing effective instructional practices is a well-prepared workforce of teachers who have been trained on evidence-based approaches. The federal government plays a key role in assessing, documenting, and disseminating research on effective instruction and supporting professional development."

Cover graphic from the Education Law Center titled ‘Research Evidence Against Dismantling the U.S. Department of Education,’ with a prompt to swipe for key findings on Title III funding for English learners.
Graphic with text saying, "Title III may be struggling to meet its goals due to implementation challenges and inadequate funding that has not kept pace with the growing English learner population, but not because of a lack of evidence for what works to support English learners and recent immigrants."
Graphic saying, "Developing and maintaining bilingual education programs is crucially important. Although English learners take longer to reach English proficiency through bilingual approaches, in the long term, students in bilingual programs score higher on assessments than students experiencing English-only approaches, particularly in English Language Arts."

Graphic with the question “Are there quality, accountability, or antidiscrimination standards for SGOs and private schools receiving funds under the program?” followed by the answer: “There are minimal accountability standards for SGOs and none for private schools under the voucher law. There are no antidiscrimination requirements in the statute, meaning that students might be subject to discrimination by both an SGO and a private school. The voucher program also has no academic quality standards, teacher certification mandates, or curricular or testing requirements."
Graphic stating, “All vouchers harm students and undermine public education. The federal voucher program will be no different.”
Graphic titled “Understanding the Harmful Federal Voucher Program” presenting information about Scholarship Granting Organization (SGOs).
Graphic with the question “What is a scholarship granting organization?” followed by the answer: “A scholarship granting organization (SGO) is an organization that hands out vouchers that can be used on private school tuition and other expenses.”
Graphic with the question “How much money can SGOs keep under the federal voucher program?” followed by the answer: “SGOs can retain 10% of contributions received."
Graphic with the question “Do some states with voucher programs already have SGOs operating to facilitate vouchers?” followed by the answer: “Yes, SGOs already operate in some voucher states. Because SGOs will receive an influx of federal dollars under the federal voucher scheme, we expect SGOs to increase their operation in voucher states, while also expanding to other states that opt in to the federal voucher program."
