Later that evening, Vivien confirmed to her audience one of Roger's favorite stories. Around 1977, Bob Marley cautioned her, saying, "You know, Vivien, you don't have to smoke herb all the time." The laughter grew louder as she admitted, "Bob Marley told me I smoked too much!"
A reunion of principal biographers of Marley took place on Wednesday, when Chris Salewicz and Roger joined author Vivien Goldman in L.A.

Thomas wrote that in his 1973 Rolling Stone profile of Bob Marley (often cited as one of the first major Western pieces on Reggae), he wasn't just being "wordy"—il was trying to capture the hypnotic, spiritual, and invasive nature of the genre.

A 1974 quote from Michael Thomas (Australian Journalist): “Reggae music crawls into your bloodstream like some vampire amoeba from the psychic rapids of upper Niger consciousness.”
Cool reggae find. Peter Tosh poster live in Paris at Espace Balard, October 4, 1983. Love this design shaped like a pair of sunglasses. Pure early 80s vibe. By this time, Tosh, founding member of The Wailers, was fully into his solo era, touring Europe and spreading the Stepping Razor militantism

I haven't seen Roger yet!
In this clip, reggae historian Roger Steffens shares an incredible story about how reggae records and cassette tapes carrying messages of support for Nelson Mandela were secretly sent to Robben Island during his imprisonment

Bob Marley Records Hanging By The Window At Roger Steffens' Reggae Archives
This is the official face of someone who takes reggae very, very seriously. Sometimes preserving music history requires intense focus… and a BEAT Magazine shirt to match. 😄

In the Caribbean, dominoes is more than a game. It is part competition, part conversation, part neighborhood theater. The sound of tiles hitting the table echoes through rum shops, street corners, and family yards across Jamaica.

These hand-painted wooden figures are sold in sets of five, each revealing a smaller Marley inside the next. It is an unlikely meeting of cultures: Jamaican reggae interpreted through a traditional Russian craft.

I will ask Roger!!
Ooops, I got the years wrong. This was one of their first studio sessions with Coxson, which should have been in late 1963.
This session was done before the Wailers were even known. I will ask Roger if that track was ever released in the 1967-1972 complete Wailers compilation.
I will have to ask Roger, but what I understood was only a studio session for soundsystem, with no name, no label, and handwritten notes!
This is a first pressing from the very first recording session between Coxsone Dodd and The Wailers.
Pressed directly from their initial Studio One session, this record captures The Wailers at the exact moment they entered Jamaica’s most influential studio under Coxsone Dodd. #bobmarley #livicated

On this Tuff Gong SDR 45, the handwritten notes on the label are believed to be Bob Marley’s own handwriting. Certified in writing by Allan ‘Skill’ Cole himself.

Peter is having a major revival this year, with a 14-episode podcast on his life
Roger was interviewed along with Santa Davis for a film about Peter Tosh's historic appearance at the Jamaica World Music Festival in Montego Bay in 1982, produced by Wayne Jobson, on the left.
Peter Tosh Wanted Dread & Alive
Not just an iconic album cover, but this one carries signatures and testimonies from reggae legends who shaped the music alongside Peter.
Who signed the album?

Getting closer! Still not it!

We explored another poster direction. Interesting 🤪, but not quite inviting enough for the film we’re making. That’s part of the process
Livicated is about transmission, memory, and intimacy. The poster has to welcome people in, not stand in the way.
More soon

This isn’t the poster for our documentary Livicated. We intentionally tried this angle, and while it has strong elements, it doesn’t fully reflect the film's tone yet. We’re glad we tested it; now let’s move on to the next angle... #bobmarley
Unreleased Bob Marley tapes from Roger Steffens’ Reggae Archives, original cassettes, handwritten notes, and strict “no copies” markings.
More than recordings, these are working documents capturing moments of process, trust, and living history.
Huge thanks to John Dubois for the photos. #bobmarley
