The Cato Institute published new research that shows that fewer US citizens are able to bring their lawfully wedded spouses to the United States. US citizens are often ignored and overlooked in the national immigration debate. @cato.org

There’s a lot being said about the Dignity Act but not all of it reflects what’s actually in the bill. I joined a conversation to break down what it means for mixed-status families, what it gets right, and where there’s still debate. @austinkocher.com

The Dignity Act of 2025 (H.R. 4393) is the only major bipartisan immigration reform bill in Congress right now, and it has spent the last week being mischaracterized by calling it “amnesty.” Join me and Rebecca Shi in a convo with

Fixing America’s broken immigration system isn’t easy. It takes a lot of invisible hard work, coalition-building, and persistence. Go to AFUAction.org to take action today to help pass the Dignity Act.
We have a press conference at 2:00 PM with Rep Salazar, during which you will hear from myself and many coalition partners about why American business, American churches, and American families need Congress to pass the Dignity Act now.

Today, we are on Capitol Hill talking to elected reps who are surprisingly interested in making progress on bipartisan legislation that would fix key parts of our immigration system. The Dignity Act isn't everything everyone wants it to be, but it's what we need right now.
Yesterday, our broad coalition of partners across the country, including leaders from the business and faith communities, met to get to know each other. It was the first time that our coaliton had ever been in the room together at the same time.
I am in Washington, D.C., today, talking to Congressional reps about passing the Dignity Act so that mixed-status couples would finally have a way to stay together instead of torn apart. We’ve been fighting for this for years and against all odds, we’ve never been closer.
Mixed-status families are paying the price of deportation policies, lost income, mounting legal costs, and long-term instability. These aren’t abstract policies. They are economic shocks to American households.
