This opinion probably does make more sense if you're chronically dehydrated.

Fell down this rabbit hole about a couple months ago myself. There’s an experimental soul to so much of the library that I find so enthralling, like pioneers figuring out what games can and can’t be. PC-98 E.V.O is such a trip if you only know the SNES version.
"N was touched by their plight,
and started pursuing the truth.
N's heart is pure and innocent.
But there is nothing more beautiful and terrifying than innocence."
- Black and White Gospel of Pocket Monsters
I was inspired.
For context, this comes from a blog that’s made the rounds today for its confident and often wild takes.
But those were the first thoughts I had too, where bad build can actually ruin a play experience. Also live service stuff where you’re limited on free resources (which is a different problem)
The second point is probably why I hold Bravely Default in such high regard. Playing it at launch, you got to see what jobs your friends were playing and even demo them yourself. I really thought "social RPGs" were the future, but that kind of got absorbed into regular-ol' gachas in the 2010s.
I do agree with the sentiment, but two thoughts:
1: It sucks when you're 20 hours deep in a game to find out you committed to a build that's dogwater (maybe less of a concern nowadays).
2: Sharing builds and tips is a delightful way to make a single-player game a social experience.
I didn't want to butt in on a conversation but I was very ready to drop about 100 fun Dreamcast facts like this.
"You see, the VMU made the Dreamcast the original Wii U."
Spinoff sequel to this: At GameStop, a kid no older than 9 rushes in and goes "Do you guys have Super Nintendo games!?" He then saw a Dreamcast in the little retro corner and grilled the salesperson on everything he knew about it. The children also yearn for Lufia 2 and Skies of Arcadia.
Legitimately sad to learn that Borderlands Mobile is just a limited test. I was ready to crown it the greatest f2p mobile game ever made simply for having no sign of microtransactions outside a premium battle pass.
Horse is such a Jagen I swear
A sign on a trail showing a yield triangle. Bikes yield to walkers, but both yield to horses.
New Fire Emblem weapon triangle is crazy. #blutoid
(This isn’t to say I’m a mobile game hater. I’m on record for being a fan of Dragalia Lost, Arknights, and Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent among other things)
Gonna throw out here that I’ll totally review this if anyone wants. I both have hundreds of hours in Borderlands experience and a proven track record of suffering through even the trashiest gachas for your entertainment.

If the children of Adam and Eve formed a Full Party and focused more on PvE instead of PvP, we’d probably know more about the other encounters in the Fallen Garden of Eden raid tier.
An image depicting the exile of Adam and Eve. A large hooded figure with a massive flaming sword stands behind them
Faith Fun Fact: When Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden, a cherubim with a flaming sword was placed to guard the entrance. Scholars believe this to be the first documented instance of a door boss.
The absolute audacity of these people
I have no dog in the race as far as Mario movie discourse goes, but I'd rather kids watch that than wander through the YouTube wasteland.
Also just walked by two kids a week ago who I heard say "If you talk to ChatGPT enough it TALKS like you!" so yeah the bar for entertainment is in hell right now
Someone needs to help Tim out, since he's not just a great writer, but also a fantastic guy to work with.
Just took a big financial blow today, so I'm here to say that I'm very open to any video game writing work.
Writing and editing experience, happy to take on reviews, guides, features, etc. My essays have gotten comments like "the best thing I've read on this website," I can do those for you too!
This is actually "just a guide," but one of the better examples of me being passionate about rougelikes / puzzle stuff / card-based stuff.
Biggest passions are RPGs (turn-based, tactical, or action-based) and most things retro-inspired. I also love more straightforward action games, and I can get into Diablo-esque ARPGs or MMOs. I have a pinned thread with stuff I've written about games I loved, I'll link a few more examples here.
Tim's a fantastic writer! get him work, get him hired!
Hire him.
Also hire @krismoyse.bsky.social.
Hire all the good folks I used to work with at Destructoid.
Also, I don't think this Mario Kart World guide is a great read or anything, but I did solo this entire project over the game's first weekend of being out. Let it never be said that I don't roll up my sleeves to get something done 100%.
Speaking of Dragon Quest, for an example of my guide writing, here's a beginner oriented piece about where to start with the mainline Dragon Quest series. I genuinely love writing these kinds of explainers, let me know if you want an exhaustive break down like this about Final Fantasy or something.
Overdue to update this thread, and what better way to do that than with my favorite piece of 2025? Dragon Quest I&II HD-2D Remake reshapes the Erdrick trilogy into a beautiful song of hope, a reminder that there is an end to overwhelming darkness and sorrow as long as you persevere.
I'll forgive anyone passing over me if it means @krismoyse.bsky.social gets more to write.
