I quit my dream job and (volunteer) coordinated and delivered food to >175,000 frontline workers in Seattle. Set me back years financially. But it was the right thing to do. I saw a lot. Some traumatic memories, but mostly people helping others. #COVID #WeGotThisSeattle

I don't see this said enough: the widespread use of generative AI is not only making our jobs as educators harder logistically, but also emotionally. It is genuinely sad to be suspicious of students when you have spent so much time building a pedagogy based on trust and not being a cop. It sucks.
Exactly one year ago today:
Lovely footage of the first bear born in Aragon in more than 50 years, shortly after emerging from hibernation. Part of the slow recovery of brown bears in the Pyrenees. Via Aragón TV.
Someday, with luck and hard work, she will have a name too.
I am again asking people to pay attention to what has happened to our National Science Foundation and by extension thousands of researchers across the country.
The devastation is ongoing and worthy of continued outcry to officials and journalists. 🧪
WEMBY FADEAWAY CORNER 3? 👽
Why not!
He's up to 21 PTS and 3 triples as the Spurs lead Game 1 at the break!
If y'all aren't watching the Spurs game on NBC, tune in for a second and check out the Fiesta crowd and the Fiesta court. It's pretty impressive that they are able to get nearly 100% buy in.
Sabres vs Bruins Game 1
Your phone will never take a good photo of the moon except for this one rare exception.
I want to read this book and I’m also utterly terrified of what doing so would do to my blood pressure.
Wildlife trade drives animal-to-human pathogen transmission over 40 years
New in @science.org ‼️ In the most comprehensive study to date, we show that wildlife trade is driving animal-to-human zoonotic spillover at a planetary scale, with +1 spillover per host every 10 years. Live animal markets and illegal trade pose even greater risks. 🔓 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Like essentially what we are saying is that the main use case for AI is to generate all the chart bloat you have to have so some administrator thinks you checked all the boxes and, you're never gonna believe this, I think that's a strong litmus test for "which parts of the documentation are useless"
I think if "put in all the relevant information, and then AI will write your chart note" were a good charting strategy we could all save a lot of time and energy and water by just agreeing that that list of "all the relevant information" should count as the whole chart note by itself
naming your biology plagiarism machine after the most famous case of biology plagiarism is a very funny bit I must admit
Heartbreaking description of the pointless, thoughtless damage being done to the Kennedy Center. It was such an important part of life in Washington, and is now being destroyed for no reason

🚨FISA VOTE TONIGHT! 🚨 While you are sleeping, Republicans plan to jam a bill through the House tonight allowing the Admin to spy and collect data for the next FIVE YEARS.
No warrants REQUIRED. No real assurances a shady AG, FBI, or DNI director will follow the law. I am a NO!
Voting on spy powers at 2am will definitely help with trust in the government!
You can get copper anywhere. You can’t get the Boundary Waters anywhere else. So tell me what’s more precious? I really despise the people running the government right now.
Very same.
It is an honor and a privilege to be a scientist supported by the public to do work in service of knowledge and future cures.
this is why you're not supposed to cross those databases, idiots
Here’s the thing—especially on April 15: cutting the IRS isn't some abstract budget trim. It's a tax cut delivered through weaker enforcement. And it mostly goes to people with the most scope to hide income.
Dude's a genius. Succession music, chef's kiss
Draymond Green tells me his emotions after the Warriors' WILD NBA play-in win against the Clippers: "Anytime you got Steph Curry, you got a chance. So it's on all of us to give him a chance to show his greatness. Everybody did their part."
lab-grown meat and self-driving cars seem like technologies where, once they are fully mature, it will be absolutely impossible to explain the world without them to people
Vance thinks Trump is infallible but the Pope needs his input.
What Trump and Vance are effectively saying to the Church but more broadly is that matters of war, genocide, kidnapping and inequality are not moral issues.
And that actually explains everything we are seeing and experiencing.
How many hundreds of thousands of people in the U.S. are trying to make a tax payment and/or quarterly estimated tax payment right now? I was trying to, and then I got this message. WTF? #IRS #Taxes
No one wants ICE prison camps or AI data centers in their communities. Because they monopolize resources for inherently evil reasons. It’s time to start listening to the people. No one wants this shit. #maddow
