Over the past few weeks, I’ve tested some ideas in KS3 reading lessons to make our independent reading more purposeful.
Today, I started creating a reading journal for use fortnightly at KS3. I’ve just left the starting blocks, but here’s what I’ve got… #Literacy #TeamEnglish #Education

PICTURE OF THE WEEK! 📸
This week we want to see... a display you've prepared in your classroom. Tag us!
Here's a fabulous photo from one of our schools, with news stories from around the world 🌍.
P.S. What should Picture of the Week be next Friday?

Thanks so much! Flippity looks fun. Teaching good note-taking has been at the forefront of my mind all summer. It seems like a big current issue for teachers.
Pinched. Stolen. Pilfered. Lush idea; thanks, Richard.
Thank you so much, Rachel! A scaffolded approach to all aspects of the KS5 classroom, to help bridge the gap between GCSE and A Level, seems to be a theme.
Great advice; thank you both. People often talk of the jump between GCSE and A Level being more demanding than that between A Level and a Degree, which led me to believe that I must drastically change my teaching style for KS5.
That’s a good point. When I observed year 12 lessons last year, I was surprised at some pupils' lack of proactivity! Something to work on and grow for sure.
Hey Steve, thanks for your generous response. Pedagogical gold dust.
I’m really reassured to see some of my own thoughts and preparation in what you say. Cheers, again. X
I’m an ECT in English and this year I’ll be taking my first A Level class.
Any tips and tricks from fellow KS5 practitioners?
I’ll be teaching Eng Lit with OCR, kicking off with Ibsen’s ‘A Doll’s House’.

Thanks Sophie! I can foresee so many positives in dialogic feedback, especially at secondary. Are there any negatives that you’ve experienced?
If you're a teacher, what are your thoughts on book marking?
As an ECT I’m keen to hear from those more experienced, especially if your school’s assessment policy has changed.
Do you use whole-class feedback? Mark each book w/ comments? Not mark at all? What are the pros/cons?

Now that I’ve gained some more followers, would any newbies like to add some thoughts to the mix? See below.

Thanks Elizabeth, this is fab.
Hi! I’m an ECT1 English teacher, based in SE London. #TeamEnglish
Amazing insight, cheers Gareth!
Lush idea, thanks Gareth!
Who (staff) was doing the reading?
Was this for both KS3 and KS4?
Did all children participate, or just those with a below-average reading age?
Thanks Steve! I think a bit of both. I’m a newly qualified teacher, so I’m still finding my feet RE approaching whole-school initiatives. I’m keen to organise a reading festival that coincides with World Book Day in March. SLT are keen for my work to focus on oracy.
Hey @edusky.bsky.social famalam. I’m a brand spanking new Literacy Coordinator at my school with a hundred and one ideas whizzing around, and I’m wondering…
What are some of the best whole-school literacy interventions/ideas you’ve experienced?

Hi @bsky.app 👋🏼 I’m growing wary over X’s inability to moderate and shut down racist accounts and language, so I’m giving this thing a go. Hoping to find a strong community of educators, as a first year teacher who learnt a great deal from X’s edu discourse.
Hey Derek. I’m slightly late to the party, but I’d love to be added!
