“My way of writing about food came through the experience of going vegan, accidentally running a small vegan food business, and then, incidentally, trying to run an ethically sourced vegan food business.”

“The food is expensive for a variety of reasons, many made worse because of the colonial structures that now lead to tourist dependency.”

New at PB: Alicia Kennedy discusses food access in Puerto Rico–and paths toward the decolonization of food writing.

I cannot emphasize enough that, for many people, the core problem with society is that girls and people with uteruses are allowed to envision themselves as full human beings deserving of an interesting and self-determined life

Whoa 🤯

The Moon, in full eclipse, with the #Artemis II Orion spacecraft. Part of the Moon and spacecraft are lit by Earthshine, and both Saturn and Mars are visible to the lower right. Incredible. Details: images.nasa.gov/details/art0...

Iranian state TV is straight up playing Giorgio Mordor-style disco tunes.

The chryon reads: "By accepting Iran's terms, the US committed to non-aggression, continued Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, enrichment, and lifting of all sanctions."

Iranian sources reporting that U.S. and/or Israeli fighter jets are continuing strikes throughout Iran as we approach Trump's 8pm deadline, when "a whole civilization will die."

I'm going to post images, video & updates (including sourcing/confidence where possible) over the evening in this thread.

YOU: Hi my name is [name]. I’m calling from [ZIP CODE].

YOU: Today, President Trump said that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran does not meet his deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. That rhetoric is extreme, dangerous, and disqualifying.

FOR THOSE W/ DEM ELECTEDS: I’m asking [ELECTED OFFICIAL] to publicly condemn this rhetoric and use every available procedural tool to stop further escalation, including support for impeachment and urgent public pressure on congressional leadership.

FOR THOSE W/ GOP ELECTEDS: I’m asking [ELECTED OFFICIAL] to publicly condemn this rhetoric, press the administration and cabinet to treat this as disqualifying conduct.

YOU: Calling this what it is matters. Even if removal is difficult, elected officials should treat rhetoric like this as unfit and dangerous.

YOU: [OPTIONAL COMMENTS]

Families in Tehran are taping up their windows and sleeping together in rooms away from the glass. Their buildings have already been shaken by nightly explosions from the most sustained bombing in the capital since the eight years of the Iran-Iraq war. Some are rushing to buy
generators, concerned that new attacks could cause critical services like electricity and water to unravel.
The bombings and threats have left many Iranians living in fear not only of their own government, which killed thousands of people in a crackdown on protesters early this year, but their would-be American rescuers, who pledged at the beginning of the war to create the conditions for their government to fall.
A 43-year-old woman living in Tehran and undergoing treatment for breast cancer said she worried what intensified attacks on infrastructure could mean for her healthcare.

Exactly. That we elected a president who repeately makes genocidal threats is a massive moral stain on our country. That there's even a slim chance that he will carry out those threats makes things even worse, but the stain is there even if he never follows through.

The Artemis II crew just gave us an 80's sitcom intro and it's absolutely hilarious! Freeze frames, cheesy grins, theme song energy. These are the four humans who are about to around the Moon. NASA said fun and we are here for it!

The vast majority of Americans are birthright citizens. Unless you naturalized or were born abroad to an American parent, you are a citizen because of the 14th Amendment. There is nothing constitutionally distinct about Americans born here to non-Americans. We are all literally equal citizens.
