Leong: Blanket rezoning repealed in Calgary … so, what's next? As Calgary politicians prepare to grapple again with new rules to govern more density in older neighbourhoods, they face the same problems.

"Many at the public hearings on blanket rezoning spoke in support of more density — as long as it happened somewhere other than their own neighbourhood. This is frankly an impossible request for the city to fulfil, b/c if the policy only apply somewhere else, it will effectively be applied nowhere."

Police told us that body cams would be used to hold them accountable and to prevent abuse.

Instead, they're going to be used to surveil the entire public—and then to send all the surveillance data to a robot false-positive generator that is accountable to no one.

Edmonton women's shelter closes after city declines to renew lease | CBC News Edmonton has lost nearly 100 shelter spaces after a local women’s shelter had to close its doors. A February memo to city council shows that city administration decided not to extend the lease.

"Coun. Aaron Paquette, who represents where the shelter is located, told CBC News he had received reports that open-air drug use and physical violence nearby had impacted surrounding businesses," but the province disputes this, noting that the city had made no complaints to the shelter's operators.

Fraser called the actions of the EPS “reprehensible” and made it clear that he also felt threatened and that the police may have crossed the line into criminality.

“The veiled threat that they may release more information about this matter if they are not happy about the sentence I impose comes dangerously close, and may actually cross the line, into an attempt to wilfully obstruct, pervert, or defeat the course of justice in a judicial proceeding,” Fraser said in his ruling.

"The nicest thing that can be said about Mr. Nenshi’s screed is that it’s ill-timed and clearly a reaction to United Conservative Party Premier Danielle Smith’s inevitable effort to tie the Alberta NDP to its federal counterpart.

It has the potential, though, to turn into a spectacular own goal..."

Because there will be no penalty or letter of reprimand, this finding by the commissioner would not be published on the Elections Alberta website. The complainant, a local political journalist named Deirdre MacLean, shared it on social media this evening.

An email from Alberta Election Commissioner Paula Hale to journalist Deirdre MacLean.

"I write to inform you of the outcorne of your cornplaint that the Honourable Minister Dale Nally used the list of electors inappropriately when he provided his member's response on November 17, 2025, to the recall petitbn that had
been approved.
I have concluded my investigation. I have reviewed all the evidence collected and considered section 20 of the Election Act, which, in my view, is intended to protect the personal information of electors. I find that Minister Nally had accessed the List of Electors for a purpose not authorized by the Election Act;
however, I acknowledge that there is ambiguity about whether the use of the List of Electors would have been appropriate in these circumstances.
Accordingly, my decision is to close the file without issuing a letter of reprimand or an administrative penalty. Instead, Minister Nally was provided advice to support his future use of the List of Electors.
As required by section 54(2Xa) of the Recall Act and section 153.091 (5) of the Election Act, this is your notice of investigation outcorne. My Office will be taking no further action, and this matter is concluded."

Elections Alberta finds that yes, Dale Nally did violate the Elections Act when he pulled voter records in order to attack the credibility of an organizer of a petition against him. But there will be no penalty. The commissioner feels the Act is ambiguous enough that Nally might have been confused.

TAIT: Cowardly display of politics by UCP on Alberta Accessibility Act Every MLA who voted "no" should be forced to sit down and write a heartfelt, handwritten letter to all parents of kids with disabilities.

“With a furious, heart-breaking 43-34 vote, the provincial government decided to dismiss thousands of Albertans with disabilities, essentially telling desperate parents that their children just do not matter enough to warrant a simple legal framework.”
