It's finally time!

No, we would not approve.
Hopefully we would catch it in the early stages. Such things are often reflected in their work elsewhere.
But if push came to shove, I would consider legal action. That's the point of having a clause about it and the intent shown by hiding it is nefarious.
See also: the related article about "We will fuck up [and allow AI into a game]" in case you were wondering why our anti-genAI clause is so broad.
It must be. If nothing else to inform the developers of the risks when their tools are enshitified to the point that AI is unavoidable.
In case you were looking for more based folks.
It must be broad because genAI is invasive and should be fought at every turn, but lenient enough to capture intent.
I don't know the underlying mechanisms of auto-complete and don't want to burden devs with corporate sins, but I would still recommend disabling AI code features when possible.
damn, a really GOOD* question, haha
This is a really question, or at least I find it interesting because: No! I don't think so? This is anecdotal, I don't keep count, but it feels like some amount of submissions we would reject anyway just changed nature. There are def some high-quality genAI subs, but soulless still feels soulless.
Haha, the aftermath appears to be good only so far. Tho we have 100+ new subs from last week so we'll find out how emboldened folks got.
I find it hard to judge text because there's so many descriptive one-liners. But I have seen it for sure.
We're lucky to work with some delightful teams making cool stuff funded by @outersloth.com
But remember, THE GAMES AND TEAMS STILL NEED YOUR SUPPORT AND WISHLIST! 👇

It was an accident we ever posted the version without and only through strict curation did I feel safe without that clause for so long.
We cited ~30% genAI submissions, the majority undeclared. Would love to see that hit zero. It was so much easier to judge games before it was prevalent.
Love seeing lawyers taking a peep at the contract. Thanks for the write up @nicolecarpenter.bsky.social ! ❤️
Some nights I wonder if I'm just way too optimistic but man I just want the arts to thrive.
I'm home and I've written a bit on my blog about post-GDC feelings:

Yeah, this is a constant struggle for us. We do our best to use "funder" terms for ourselves and it is great when others acknowledge and are consistent with the distinction.
Simply put, we do not offer services (loc, qa, marketing, etc) and devs own their own operations and external relationships!
💰THE OUTERSLOTH CONTRACT 💰
We just released the FULL contract and terms that all our games sign!
We hope this challenges the status quo of what you see out there.
In a nutshell:
💸 Pre-recoup 50/50
💸 Post-recoup 15/85
💸 Terms after 7 years

This is true, and I also would advise anyone and everyone to make these enquiries, loads of people have been in your the same situation and almost everyone wants to help. Im always happy to do so.
I had a DM from a dev one day that simply said "Are the Outersloth folks for real?" :)
it's very easy to succeed as an indie gamedev all you gotta do is get tens of thousands of followers, significant numbers of true fans, and then ship at least one game a year (preferably more)

Panel 1: Exec: "Ok guys ok ok we won't kill Adobe Animate." Crowd: "Phew" "thank fuck" "That's better" "I'm still switching to something else." "No yeah you really should" Panel 2: Exec: "Unfortunately we will also stop adding new features to it." Crowd: "WOO!!!" "It's a dream come true!" "Yeah!" "Finally!" Exec: "... um. Why are they cheering"

Ratios *do* have units tho, we just hate recording them for some weird reason? Like mentally I always use 16 widths : 9 heights to rationalize whatever aspect thing I do.
Or 10 parts water to 1 part coffee is explicit.
But the lack of standard is annoying. Alongside "50% more X than Y"
💵 MONEY for GAME? In 2026??? 💵
There have been more and more successful-game-devs-turned-game-funders popping up, so here's a lil' thread of some of the more recent ones I've seen.
Hopefully this helps you get some $$$! 🔽
