I spoke to the victims advocate who was great but also real about my safety. It shook me. she thanked me for coming forward & advocating for my safety. The DAs office will be reaching out tomorrow for my official affidavit. The cops were wrong, I don’t need a lawyer the state pays for my lawyer.

Knowing exactly where I stashed my copy of the police report from that night when I can’t find most things on most days is a trip. Having to dig up old info to file is emotionally exhausting. But I realize he’s in a downward spiral and I need to get ahead of it.

I guess I’m going to use this thread to document the process of filing an Emergency Protective Order or a regular Protective Order from the viewpoint of a victim that has been terrorized & stalked by their abuser for the past 14 months.
It’s why I don’t call the cops when he shows up because I don’t trust them. So now I’m having to parse through what needs to be done to get a EPO. Mind you, this man contacted me the day his probation and no contact order was up. (Actually the day before because he mixed up the dates).
Because I didn’t call the cops when he was there, the detective informed me I needed a lawyer to file a protective order request. To which my response was “if I end up dead, make sure yall look at him first”. Having victims do the heavy lifting for their safety is a failing of the system
In an interesting turn of events, my (abusive) ex has turned back up in life in scary ways. It escalated last night with him knocking on my door. Thankfully I wasn’t home, but I saw it on my camera. A month ago I filed a police report the last time he showed up unexpectedly.
