I love musicals. Played in the orchestra for Oklahoma in high school. Watched pretty much every movie musical ever made while staying with my grandma during so many school holidays. Every once in a while I hear a song I don’t realize I know and actually sing along to lyrics I don’t realize I know.

Bruce is a New Zealand parrot missing his top beak. It’s a serious disability, but he has managed to become the alpha of his group, through creativity. Here’s my story about Bruce and the mostly mysterious natural history of disability. Gift link: nyti.ms/4cwVGT5

His trip to the Czech Republic, where he was with @evanrail.bsky.social and Evan nearly fell through the floor at that old brewery was super local :)

And Evan didn’t spill the beer. Even better.

This war is so damn confusing. It’s why we shouldn’t let drunks and dementia patients run it.

I haven’t had Swedish meat balls since…. maybe not since I was a kid. Meatballs and some lingonberries. Also indeed had them with egg noodles that my grandmother would make. What a flash from the past.

I wouldn’t grow it if I could buy it so easily. Lucky you!

Mine that grow in more shady spots and stay cooler seem to do better - and not bolt as quickly. I continue trying because we use a lot and unless I drive the hour to the Asian grocery stores we can’t get it at a decent price. I buy multiple bunches with roots and then stick them in a jar of water.

I can grow it and it often seeds itself. But then when I need it the ones I found growing have often bolted. So now I’m trying with a grow light in the garage. Maybe I’ll set up a grow tent with lights and hydroponics ;)

I always have my PLB in the pocket of my life jacket (and it is attached with a cord so it can’t just pop out and sink). But I’ve mostly gone out from Martins Bay and only in the smoothest weather. Love fishing off my kayak but now I have to paddle a long ways to get to water I’m allowed to fish in

This thought had been stuck in my head for years, and I finally had to do something about it.

I am still inordinately proud of my nonsense…

Thanks for the article.

I just don’t understand the push for autonomous driving. Though I definitely believe that we will probably see safer driving by autonomous vehicles than many of the human idiots behind the wheel.

Simply wish that the US would invest more in public transportation.

But of course that is required to be the case (or said to be the case) because a remote driver in some other country wouldn‘t likely have a valid driver’s license for the State of California.

So much effort to keep cars relevant instead of proper public transit.

Aren’t these actually being operated by a car drone pilot in the Philippines or something like that?

For those of us who do eat meat it is always best to think about what is involved. Gratitude to the animals and to the farmers.

Thank you for writing and sharing this

Something to help us all believe in the good side of humanity. Really miss having compassionate and intelligent leaders in so much of the world, but in the US in particular.

It is possible. Vote, people!

Really wonder what the story is behind this. That duck looks very intent. It obviously believes it belongs inside.

Let’s see: rice vinegar, apple cider, white, sherry, red wine, balsamic. Olive oil, grape seed, sesame oil, sometimes rice bran oil around. Looks like I’m behind on oil.

Chicago is quite a way south from that upper corner. Specifically Winthrop Harbor and Zion - right next to the Wisconsin border. Growing up we often had different weather from Chicago as it wraps around the bottom curve of Lake Michigan while we were right up against the shore

Talked to her today and asked about this. 3rd grade. Soo Line to Greenwood/Atwood/Owen WI or thereabouts. She ended up going one day late because she injured herself. Her grandma didn’t have a phone at the farm and no way tell anyone she was a day late. Still someone was waiting at the station.

It does not look very nice on the weather radar. And evidently this is the wettest spring since 1871

She just messaged that seems where she is OK but the very NE corner of Illinois still at risk

Yep. They drained the swamp and then dredged the bottom to find only the very best.

Yep my mom messaged me that she is in the basement bathroom with the dog and the sirens are blasting. Northern Illinois - just across the border so same general area

That’s pretty much how my mom was sent to the rest of the family on the farm as a small girl - probably also around seven or so. From northern Illinois to central Wisconsin
