Imagination and meaning are totally connected.
Imagining scenes = default mode network. Inner speech = language network. I.e., if you wanna find purpose, draw or dance or write evocative poetry. Don't ruminate in words.

Ditto! Finding this awesome new community has been such an unexpected bonus
Still thinking about how much fun we had at the WA Tabletop Game Alliance @tga.bsky.social summit last weekend.
Designing a game is a fraction of the work it takes to produce a game. So much collective wisdom in one room.
Plus, who doesn't want to play a game called Antifascist Tooth Fairy?
Our first Comic Con! The remarkably supportive @playtestnw is hosting designers all weekend at @emeraldcitycomiccon. So fun! 🤩
Yuki, Maggie and Dani won a copy of Alex’s book in our ‘awesome feedback’ competition. Thanks y’all!
Scientists now think we have 33+ tangible senses: heat, interoception, etc.
But from how we use language, I think we have dozens of intangible senses, too:
Sense of belonging
Sixth sense
To sense danger
Sense of humor
That makes sense

"Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken." - Oscar Wilde
I hate that academia is a self-fulfilling ivory-towered silo that perpetuates the myth that anything thoughtful and worthwhile only happens there.
Good luck smashing any paradigms that need to be smashed. 👩🎤
Bob Ross painting happy trees with a live squirrel in his pocket
We’d like to let you know that:
A) There is a Bob Ross Channel
B) Our emergency vet office plays it exclusively
C) Bob Ross once shot an episode with a squirrel in his pocket

I think we should look at humans the same way. The most interesting, the most unique? That’s beauty. 🐶🤘

Ooh excited to listen. ☺️ It sounds like this is about being forced to attune to *other* people’s scores. I think we don’t score things enough. (Our game literally asks people to rate impossible things for this very reason — but from YOUR perspective.)
Groundhog Day | noun | a situation in which the same usually negative or monotonous experiences occur repeatedly or are felt to occur repeatedly with no change or correction
To every writer, artist & [insert your creative thing here] who feels they maybe shouldn't be posting stuff that *isn't* 'How Do We Stop The Fascists' right now:
One of the tools of Evil People is hopelessness - where everyone's so exhausted they forget what Better looks like.
Please remind them.
Our first iteration of Sense cards with their ‘sense’ category, including Feather Boa (touch), Robots (sight), and Social Media or Being Filmed (intangible/emotion).
Our first iteration was named ‘Senseption’ bc the whole point was the senses. Or so we thought.
But having the sense written on each card? People vehemently hated it, or proudly declared they didn’t need a ‘cheat code’.
Interested in #cogsci, #psychology or #neuroscience: any theories?
Our favorite part. ☺️
We had no idea when we started creating a board game that we’d just stumbled upon a whole new community of wildly creative people.
Playing @truthorcarol.bsky.social at @orcacon.bsky.social with Sarit. Who we’ll get to see next Oct at @spielessen.bsky.social; whee!!
#boardgamedesigners
Yes. This. 💓
We’ve made it to @orcacon.bsky.social, and have been playing our game with the other attendees to get to know them 😊 So fun! If you want to play, let us know!
I think this is the closest one to Seattle? It’s our first ever so it’d be nice to see a friendly face. ☺️
We lived there for a year (I wrote a book with the former co-founder about Trump while there). It was grueling, and surprisingly soul-crushing. I like doing funny board games WAY better. ☺️
Are you going to OrcaCon this weekend? -A
I tried out to write for them. And: Yup. It’s miserable on the *exact* level you’re thinking: take a horrible thing and run it endlessly through the 11 funny filters.
We’re looking forward to #OrcaCon tomorrow, our very first board game convention. 👶🎲 Wheee!
Equal parts excited, curious, and wondering what we have no clue about.
Great! I'm really looking forward to this next year. Including the part where we have to finish it later... That happened to us with the Bonne Maman jam Advent Calendar ;) Really should make something this weekend that we can use those jams on...
Inspired by all the #bgstats posts about what board games everyone played last year, I had to go dig through our games library to see what we actually focused on.
…pretty sure there’s a theme here 😄🎲
There’s an exit advent calendar?? So making a note of that for next year! Thanks
We’ve made a game.
We’ve playtested.
Now, our first convention 😅
@orcacon.bsky.social, here we come
Not totally sure what to expect, but excited to learn and meet people.
Say hi if you’re going!
Man. I love talking to folks about creativity.
And how art has co-opted the word, and how each of these elders are far more creative than school, society, or the world has led them to believe.
Can’t wait to see how they play with their newfound permission to get creatively messy. ☺️
Will you let us know when it does?? ☺️ (Because being a creative is fucking hard, and we need to celebrate the wins like they're going out of style.)
