But! It worked out well in the end because it could be tied to the purpose of the original unit, and not the somewhat persona-degraded version that is "Mauer", the specific unit! 🔥 Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk!

Mauerläufer was picked - because it's a pretty bird I like 😭 and because I wanted a German nickname for him that was not too difficult for non-german-speakers to pronounce. To be honest it initially wasn't a very deep choice, because it was a one-shot and I didn't know I would get so attached! 😭

So why MAUR (Mauerläufer)? Well, from Mustererkennings-Auswertungs-Unterstützungs-Replika, a specialized assistant/secretary/archivist-replika for complex and demanding workplaces!

Now, Replikant Robotik is a defunct, bankrupt company, and not many replikas remain (there were some... malfunctions, if you will) so few, in fact, that Mauer can go by his unit designation (MAUR) without confusion. With most replikas gone, some less numerous models may be extinct already.

But, of course, the lore needed to change a little bit to fit the Mothership setting more, so in this supercapitalist dystopian AU, if you will, "Replikant Robotik" was a company that created the replikas with their (at the time) shiny and new bioresonance technology. However...

When I first played Mauer it was for a Mothership one-shot (the Haunting of Ypsilon-14) and after talking to GM and co-player it was clear that I would be playing the android class, and I asked if I could play a replika and gave some context - and was allowed!

It depends a lot - mostly I try to pick something typical but fitting for the genre and lore, but sometimes characters also just somehow name themselves.

You have probably already heard about this, and I don't mean to add yet another program to the list that doesn't do everything PS does - but I recommend Krita, it's free, similar to PS and uses a lot of the same hotkeys that PS does, so the learning curve is not steep!
