Mamdani hasn't had time to really think about all that space he now has, because he spends most of his time at City Hall and around New York City. He tries to keep a semblance of his old life by getting around the city on foot, by bike or train. "If you spend every single day driving around in a tinted window security detail, you will have a very specific view of the city," he said. "You actually meet other New Yorkers and you break out of the bubble that so many have come to expect of politics, where politicians only seem to be spending time with other politicians or the people who donated to make them politicians."
I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example.

Trying to explain St Augustine to the pope, the former head of the Augustinian order, who wrote his doctoral thesis on Augustine, on his way back from celebrating mass at the Basilica of St Augustine in Annaba, Algeria, overlooking the site where Augustine lived is peak Adult Catholic Convert.
Yeah, I got about 20 minutes in and had to move on.
i can't help but think about 10 or 11 years ago when conservatives insisted that obama was uniquely anti-catholic because his administration thought that catholic-led orgs could just fill out a form if they didn't want to cover contraceptives in their health plans for employees.
i think everybody who wasn't an adult in 2006 is unprepared for how fast and how totally they're going to pretend trump never existed
All my estate-planning-lawyer eyes see there is a one way ticket to getting put on life support when there is no reason for it or receiving zero palliative care. 😬
The Pope is WEAK on crime is so gd funny; I am HOWLING
Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime
Stop
I’d buy it for 69% off
Italy's commitment to boycotting World Cup's hosted by ethically immoral countries is quite impressive.
It’s a shame the shot closed in on Paula so we couldn’t see the toadie bishop clap like a dumb seal as much
Just so you understand, this is as if you prepared for argument in front of a panel that included Cookie Monster, and Cookie Monster asked you a question about cookies, and you had not thought about cookies in advance.
AOC was very famously a bartender, markwayne mullin inherited and sold a family plumbing business for millions, which of these two does the median american think to be more blue collar-coded?
I do think it’s very funny to convert to Catholicism as an ordinary if mildly famous person at the time only to have the Pope eventually become one of your biggest haters
None of these words are in the bible
Catholic rites for Palm Sunday among the ruins of Gaza, while the Cardinal-Patriarch is banned from visiting the Holy Sepulchre by the only democracy in the Middle East.
Pope Leo on Palm Sunday: “This is our God: Jesus, King of Peace, who rejects war, whom no one can use to justify war. He does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them, saying: ‘Even though you make many prayers, I will not listen: your hands are full of blood’ (Is 1:15).”
I like the visual nod to Adams’s search-your-kid’s-room PSA.
Red States: We're going to cut all the programs that don't support our theology
Blue States: We're going to cut the same programs, but because they don't support the business school
If a gym is in the cards, use machines and drop weight to minimum to focus on form at first. Add weight slowly. For cardio, figure out what your zone 2 hear rate is and hit it for 20 minutes. Treadmill or outside walk at a quick pace should get you there. Add more intensity if you feel compelled.
High expectations? In Indiana? The land of good enough is good by me? At this point, I perversely love telling people that I take the Red Line to work everyday and watching their brains actively break.
Me, whenever someone asks me what I do for work:
Were you guys not sentient during the W years? I have been consuming foreign media to understand my home country my entire adult life
Something that Jacques Pepin said once that has always stayed with me is that when he arrived in America in the 50s, the only way you could buy mushrooms was in a can.
