Error! Error! The meter cries.
And flashes its display.
Into the trash, the strip it goes
Good money thrown away.
He swats my hand with velvet paw
Annoyed, he takes his leave.
Alas, alack, I’ve no success
I’ve failed again this eve.

Do not flick your ears, my Baer,
I’ve only made one prick.
I need a tiny drop of blood
On this expensive stick.
Don’t shake your head Baer, I implore.
I’ll lose that drop so red
Of precious blood I need to test.
No! Please don’t shake your head!

Yup! We sure did.

He’s left a calling card
A message left unsaid
He’s done a little wee
In the middle of the bed.

These pokes and pricks do hurt
And I stab him thrice a day
He’s really quite fed up
And he has much to say.
Baer is not happy with me.
But he doesn’t have the words
So he does a little wee.
Or leaves a little turd.
That is gorgeous!

All vaccines... Got! Wish me luck. I have pre-excused myself from work tomorrow just in case.
Baer at the vet. He's all "I 'll stay right in here, thanks."
/wave Hey, hey. 👋
This goodness of sweet bois. He gave up that drop of blood. 167 at the mid point. Perfection.
I had a couple of foster kitten sisters named Zipper and Velcro by the shelter, but I got to decide which got which name. The more cuddly one I named Velcro.
It’s a cold Caturday. The furnace is kicking on. I finally made a lap. After Daisy followed me around all morning bitching at me. All appliances running now. Washer, dryer and dishwasher. The electricity dial must be spinning furiously.
Adventures with a diabetic cat: Got told in no uncertain terms by Baer to F**** off when I approached with the lancing device.
Adventures with a diabetic cat. Stabbed Baer when I got home after work last night. Tried again an hour after he (and I) had some dinner. Success!
This morning… 3 stabs and he very kindly let me know via not breaking my skin with his teeth that I was not to try a 4th time.
(Dramatically) It is time for the blood letting! *stab* No blood!? *stab* Bleed dammit! *stab* (mournfully) Oh Baer, why won’t you give me any blood?
Zoom Meeting Facilitator: Umm… Carol? You aren’t muted.
Boss: It’s her cat! She has a diabetic cat!
*turns video on and introduces the Baer cat*
This big goofball. I put the harness and leash on him to take him out. He got brave enough after a few false starts to leave the patio. Went out the open gate! Oh my! Then got frightened by a rustle in the bushes and ran for the front door. He is safe with Mummy.
Yes, yes they do!
Visiting with this handsome young man.
Visiting with this pretty girl again.
Thank you
This brave, brave diabetic boy. At the pokey place again. For a urine and blood draw for sugar tests. I let the vet techs be the bad guys.
Hooray! Just learned that sisters Zipper and Velcro were adopted together.
Popsicle Toes has been adopted! And renamed Soleil. Hooray!
Last vet visit. Getting Baer used to a harness as I shall have to bring him with me for any overnight trips.
Visiting with this pretty girl today. A former foster that was adopted by a friend.
“Hi Momma, you’re home.”
Haha! That’s fantastic.
His magnificence Sir Baer Fulffington, the first of his name, was a perfect sweetheart at the vet. Blood sugars are going down slowly. Insulin increased by one unit to 4 units twice a day. Re-check in a week.
