My heart is breaking for my friend Amal. Her son is fighting for his life after a severe gunshot injury and urgently needs medical care. The family cannot afford the treatment alone. Even $5 can make a real difference and help save him Please donate whatever you can

I ask because I think this is way lamer. It's like a bad Sting B-side that Santana just hopped on

Santana - Winnimg

Genuine question: what seems to be the consensus about latter day Santana? I'm talking his late 90s - early 2000s guest vocalist era onwars. I get the feeling people think it's lame. His big hit was with the Matchbox 20 guy.

The difference is that the songwriting isn't as good but I MIGHT prefer Fernando van Arb's guitar tone, so it evens out to about a 3/5.

Krokus - Burning Bones

Nearly every description I had heard of Krokus prior to hearing them was basically "Swiss AC/DC"

You don't know the half of it. The vocal style and structure is EXACTLY like Accadacca. It's uncanny and definitely not a coincidence.

Joan Jett - Bad Reputation

Probably Joan Jett's most iconic original song (I Love Rock n Roll being a cover) and with good reason. If I had to nitpick and this is a EXTREME nit to pick, I think the key change comes too early. Nearly half the song is in that key. Just weird to me.

Ok, the music is better than the last Iris track I listened to, but the lyrics are just plain nasty. I think he literally says "quit your bitchin' and get back to the kitchen." No thank you!

Donnie Iris - I Can't Hear You

If I were to do a tier list of "subject matters for songs," then I'd rank "I hate my bitch wife/girlfriend" pretty low. Not like you can't make a good song about that, but I have learned that Donnie Iris can't.

Franke & the Knockouts - Sweetheart

A lot of singers sounded like the guy from Foreigner, I'm noticing. The guy who sings this went on to co-write that "Time of My Life" song from Dirty Dancing. I wasn't sold on Sweetheart at first, but for some reason, the keyboard solo got me

For some reason, I'm reminded of "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" by the Georgia Satellites as well. I like this one.

Joe Ely - Musta Gotta Notta Lotta

I was not familiar with Joe Ely, but a cursory search tells me he was big in the Austin progressive country scene, another thing I'm unfamiliar with. From this song, seems like he was a big fan of rockabilly too.

Dire Straits - Solid Rock

The other Dire song this week is more straightforward. A 3 minute rocker and yet... something feels off. Knopfler's voice is very buried in the mix I listened to. You can hardly hear him! Was this a problem in the original release?

This is a solid song, albeit a bit of a slow burn. It takes about 2 minutes to really click, but once it does, it doesn't let go.

Dire Straits - Skateaway

The first of TWO Dires to chart this week. I ended up listening to the slbum version which is 2 minutes longer than the version that played on radios.

That isn't a knock against the song, by the way. It has a contagious energy, even if I couldn't nail down where the song was going.

It's been a while. Let's get to April 4, 1981 starting with

Phil Collins - Behind the Lines

I believe I made a comment about Phil Collins and city pop before? This is the city poppiest Phil Collinz song I've heard yet. Not much of a rock track on the rock charts, huh?

I thought I could save my little one's life as quickly as possible, but I didn't realize how incredibly difficult it would be.

My child's condition worsens every day, and I'm still far behind. I don't know why people haven't donated.

The last time I tried watching the WWE, i saw that the main event was " loser eats dog food." Before that, the last event I had seen saw seth rollins get disqualified from a hell in a cell match with a ghastly red filter.

Normal (2025): and now they have left town, conveniently right around the start of the third act right before the yakuza shows up.

Me: Yes, Normal (2025)

Normal (2025): are you ready to have your fucking mind blown, Matt?

Me: Yes, Normal (2025)

Normal (2025): we never acknowledge it again.

Normal (2025): hello matt

Me: hello Normal (2025)

Normal (2025): it is very important that you know that the yakuza knows the exact number of gold bricks in the bank vault.

Me: Yes, Normal (2025)

Normal (2025): So, this robber couple stole a gold brick.

Me: Yes, Normal (2025)

It’s inaccurate to say Mario is brave and Luigi is cowardly

Luigi is afraid of death, so he runs away from danger. Mario is afraid of living, so he runs towards death. Both brothers are cowards in their own way
