This week in 1957, Elvis Presley debuted his gold lamé suit at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago. Designed by Nudie Cohn to shine under the lights, it became one of his most iconic early looks.

On March 25, 1961, Elvis Presley held a benefit concert at Pearl Harbor for the USS Arizona Memorial, which was struggling with funding. The event raised over $60,000 in one night, revitalizing national support for the project, completed in 1962.
On March 24, 1958, Elvis was inducted into the U.S. Army. At the height of his fame, he chose to serve as a regular soldier, stepping away from the spotlight to do his duty.
