Even a gravel bike is a rough ride (got a Marin and that's still too hard), get a hardtail MTB and put marathon tyres on it. The Wirral Way is a great trail to ride though.
Couldn't do the first 15/20 mile or so of that route on the road bike it would be bone shaking. Full suspension eats it up but slower on the final 10 though.
