Major alarm bells over this. Bessent wants US banks to require customers send in copies of their passports etc. to prove citizenship, which would be far beyond the know-your-customer checks that they're required to do already. Implies this could result in closing bank accounts over non-compliance.

In the US. The other point to make is that we have the internet. We have libraries. We have all kinds of resources. If someone wants to read up on anything, the ability is there. Perhaps what is missing is not the subject knowledge, but critical appraisal skills.

They taught me about personal finance in HS. I had to take science courses and health in HS. I had gen eds in biology for college.

I think that varies. Also I assume some of the people they polled have gone to college.
