Today’s tea is a tart southern fruit blend, featuring fragrant apple rinds from the young master’s home in Aegir. A cube of sugar will more than satisfy the master’s sweet tooth, and the curried egg salad sandwiches offer a savory smoothness to even the palate. Perfection. Hubert delivers three short raps of his knuckles against the office door. On instinct, he reaches down for the doorknob, only to pause when Ferdinand’s loud tenor does not immediately ring out. No response? Has the overworked fool fallen asleep at his desk again? Two more knocks follow, staccato, quicker now. Louder. “Young master?”
