My favorite part of my kids playing school is when I make them break for lunch and they come into the "teachers lounge" for their break and talk about their students.

Which is why I appreciated the framing around hope as resistance!

Oh man, this is the exact opposite message of what my opening meetings this year were like. Lots of talk from my head about hope and the importance of hope. With the primary message being that hope is resistance, and it is not a response to our circumstances, but an active choice/mindset,

My favorite math of democracy census lesson isn't a math lesson. We do a timeline of censuses and track who/what is counted and how that changes over time. I have documents from the national archives that I print out for students to use from each decenial census. Happy to share if you're interested!

I'm back teaching middle school after 13 years in high school. Super excited...and also a bit nervous as well.
