Brilliant idea in normal times, not so much in times like these. It would be greatly unfair that people crossing into the pension age who might face a recession at the time being left with less then other generation during a boom period. Another half baked idea making it tricky to plan for a future.
The pension funds had been mismanged for decades now, used as that little extra accounting trick or silent till for the moments in need and now it's reduced to such a level that it is no longer paying out what you paid in. Merz wants to offer a Stock market driven aproach for the pensions.
The conservatives want it to become just a basic pay system that is basically not enough for anything. Gobsmacking millions of people who planned their retirement life in a certain way.
The SPD does not look like it wants to go ahead with this as it's last red line.
Doing a lot in my mother tongue today, for all who follow in English, this could be a potential deal breaker for the German Goverment koalition. It's about the Pensions that people payed in for years which should equate to covering your life after retiremen.
Ja, die roten Linien muss es geben, sonst kann ja jeder machen was er will.

Belgium announces that it will request at least a partial suspension of the EU-Israel association agreement. Spain, Ireland, and Slovenia have already done so.
The fact that this hasn't been done yet is a point of outrage and shame.

In the "severe" scenario, oil prices would hit $130 a barrel this year and inflation would jump to 6.7% by the start of next year.
In all scenarios, the Irish economy would continue to grow but at a slower pace.

Donald Trump is stuck in “no man’s land” on Iran—he doesn't want to commit to war, but he's also unwilling to make the concessions needed for a deal.
So instead, it’s delay after delay—“two weeks, two weeks”—as the crisis grows more dangerous.
