I'm actually heartened by the performance. We've looked bereft for a month, but that performance was promising. No reason we can't win out if we play facing the goal for the rest of the season.

I didn't realize there was one! I wore electric socks to a game once.

Of course we can always get the worst weather at the worst time, but that was a bit of an anamoly. Usual high on that day (Nov 9) is 56. We rarely get the bitter cold, but we are getting more windy days.

I dunno, I kinda see the romance of bundling up and following the world's calendar?

All the boomers in my home town talk about "voting for the constitution" but they only know one amendment, which defines their personality.

Mamdani hasn't had time to really think about all that space he now has, because he spends most of his time at City Hall and around New York City. He tries to keep a semblance of his old life by getting around the city on foot, by bike or train.

"If you spend every single day driving around in a tinted window security detail, you will have a very specific view of the city," he said. "You actually meet other New Yorkers and you break out of the bubble that so many have come to expect of politics, where politicians only seem to be spending time with other politicians or the people who donated to make them politicians."

I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example.

Yeah, I didn't flee the place that got ruined by Musk just to jump into the waiting arms of Zuck. Now we just need a better Instagram alternative.

Absolutely, but offering smaller vehicle options can also be a step in the right direction. I'd be delighted if these things replaced the monster trucks people drive now, and we'll keep fighting to make less car-dependent cities too.

Meanwhile, in Kansas City...

This is going to be interesting.

Somehow hadn't been to San Francisco in over a decade. Experienced Waymos for the first time, which are a popular target of derision among urbanists here. Sure, they're just perpetuating car-centrism, adding congestion, but the roads sure feel better with "drivers" who consistently follow the rules.

Indeed, nobody else in the world has our dank juicy hops. The modern IPA craze is a product of the NW where hops are better.

Although, if the main commodities impacted are oil and LNG, maybe we'll get serious about alternative energy?

One of the great things about Europe is that they don't have these deadly ego accessories.

Maybe that's helping to create a bigger anti-Trump coalition? If they're now critical of Trump and the war, why not seize that moment? Us progressives haven't been winning or getting any more popular staying inside our bubble.

we'll see how it shakes out over the course of years, but as of right now, mamdani is definitely showing how the future of good progressive governance means "use government to do good things and then post about it"

both parts are important!

Treading on me is totally fine as long as you tread on my imagined enemy way harder.

Anyone debating if they should be woken up when "it" happens clearly doesn't live in the dense part of a city. I am entirely sure things will go off and nobody will be sleeping.

Pretty wild that the household name is now feeling the heat to position themselves as the budget option.

Article discusses giving up the ideal weather of the sunbelt, but I remain a KC weather defender. Routinely ranks well on number of sunny days, winters are almost entirely mild now, spring/fall are glorious, and two months of summer have the same awful A/C dependency as AZ, TX and FL.

Is the goal to encourage coalitions? Or just to get people to care about the whole budget and not just their thing?

This is a brilliant idea.

A comprehensive list of every alleged crime ranked by priority of investigation, which then becomes a status tracker when the House flips. No drama, just a plain list with linked receipts.

Do it, @democrats.org

The eye contact thing is hilarious too. The majority of vehicles I encounter have such aggressive tinting that I can't see the driver.

Thank you for doing that! We need as many voices in as many places as we can get. The well-meaning but destructive left NIMBY perspective is exacerbating car dependency and housing affordability problems but it does feel like we're collectively getting smarter.

That said, removing mandates is maybe the single most important thing we could do at a policy level to move in the right direction on many fronts.

Thanks for sharing it! Love this article (and the work of @jshmrchnt.bsky.social) and I was in the committee room testifying to support the removal of mandates. Many presumably well-meaning people voiced concerns, and I think we still have a lot of work to do to "get it" as a city.
