Research institutes are such an economic lifeblood for America’s interior, but more than just that, they’re a big part of pushing our country forward #HigherEd

At least when it comes to research selection, it’s critically important to ensure that funds are solely distributed based on the merit and impacts of proposed work. With less research dollars distributed than we’ve seen in quite some time, we have to make sure they’re used in the most impactful way

Universities are definitely feeling the squeeze. Not only is the money held up, but support resources are as well, making proposing and managing existing awards much more difficult #AcademicSky

In speaking with those all over the academic landscape, it’s clear that everyone has complaints in how grant finances are managed. PIs are in the dark, admins lack proper tools to manage their work, and central offices have minimal data for decision making. This is solvable- and well worth solving.

It’s great to hear that some funding is returning, but to boost long-term support for research, we’ve got to increase public enthusiasm for the important work universities do, and we’ve got to enhance our ability to manage the money we have to make us more resilient. Not out of the woods yet!

Really inspiring stuff. Another testament to university research in action and why financial support for it is so critical!

U.S. science and universities are becoming political hostages in the Orbánization of knowledge “The fight for science and universities is, at its core, a fight for democracy itself,” writes Carole LaBonne.

"When governments politicize science, the damage ripples outward — shrinking innovation capacity, degrading higher education quality, and eroding a country’s economic future."

Studies show that funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) contributed to 354 of 356 drugs (99.4%) approved by the FDA from 2010 to 2019. Recklessly slashing NIH funding will mean that patients will be waiting much longer for life-saving treatments.
