:/
Wild, alright then. If you want we can talk about the 1.21.1 release?
From what I recall from the dev side; 1.21.1 was chosen because it had features that were useful to the development of Sable.
And with Create officially dropping 1.20 support there's no real reason to port to that version.

Wild! We're going to start seeing some amazing map challenges with changes like this ๐
You've got no idea how long I've been wanting to share some of these models and textures ๐
A showcase image for a couple of new blocks for the Create mod's Aeronautic addon. The image has a pair of stylised engines, with grumpy looking metal faces.
I had the pleasure of working with the Aero team for some art and gamedesign;
These Grumpy looking blocks were a fairly late addition to replace the previous stirling engine asset.
The team did a great job bringing the model to life! โฅ๏ธ

Try out some gamejams, find folks who you gel with who can help you approach stranger topics. Keep exploring and being curious about how other devs achieve results. ๐
Might be a little slower than a focused course, but I had a pretty good time of it.
Honestly, the dry stuff like vector math and coding principles comes naturally over time as you experiment ๐ค
It was pretty common for me to revisit articles and tutorials that I bounced off before and realise that I now knew kinda enough to make sense of it. Then you fill in the rest of the gaps.
As someone from an art background that had no prior experience with coding, I've become pretty competent with Godot and 3D games with two main resources:
- Youtube tutorials for anything that looks interesting (the goal is just to broaden your knowledge space)
- A community that knows the rest.
Create isn't some franchise that needs to constantly expand; if we have a cool idea for something we want to work on and we have the time and mojo to do so then we'll add it in, we're not looking to hand it over to other developers.
The team are still porting and fixing bugs, but we're not looking for new developers.
Yeh, it probably will mean that.
Create was already slowing down in it's progression as it become harder to find meaningful content that we wanted to add, as well as a couple of us exploring personel gamedev projects outside of minecraft.
It's in a good place to rest for a bit though.
Always wanted to do a post like this! ๐
GW started phasing out their metal minis around 2011; so it was a fair while ago.
There was an *awkward* phase when the metal minis were simply cast in resin instead with the same molds before they switched entirely to new plastic sprues.
It was a continuation of the same practices for making pewter toy soldiers that's gone back centuries. It's strong, workable and relatively easy to cast (especially for hand sculpted minis).
A plastic sprue kit costs a fortune to tool the molds, and couldn't always be justified for every kit.
I think it's easy to feel upset by it as a oversimplification. But there's really no strong way to separate them if you define a toy as an object of entertainment.
I guess you can argue against it if there's a context for a videogame that isn't entertaining? Like, Is a book also a toy?
You could totally achieve the same silhouette and menace while staying consistant with rest of the range.
Also yes, I am aware I am nit-picking fantasy bug toys. ๐
As an old #Tyranid player I like that the Red Terror has a big new model, sure as hell beats the old metal one. That thing was a nightmare to assemble.
There are a few details I don't enjoy, and the pose is a bit goofy. But mostly I'm wondering why it has two Torsos? That's not how 'Nids work. ๐ค
A before and after composite shot of a 3D miniature design. The design is of a tall and lithe alien robot.
The game's looking great Shaun, looks like a lot of fun!
I worked on this mini recently as a hobby project and it's a fun opportunity to compare the first file backup the final version ๐
I sent a message to you about a commission a short while ago, frankly I'm not even sure if they're getting through with the UK restrictions on DMs without age verification. :/
It's still valid if you were interested ๐
I dunno how to feel about this; There were a bunch in the purple/lavender space that I was nowhere close to, so I'm suprised the final score was so low. Some of the latter colours in the greens were easy to find though.
maybe my monitor *is* doing something weird..? ๐
oh, gosh yeh. Dealing with the community feedback is way harder than it ought to be sometimes. ๐
There's a saying that spared my mental health more than a few times;
"Don't take critique from someone who you wouldn't go to for advice"
You won't please everyone, so just make something you enjoy.๐
I don't mean to brag, but last night I tidied up both my desktop icons *and* my firefox bookmarks. ๐
Thanks Chris, much appreciated.
My problem isn't necessarily a lack of experience, I'm just particular with making sure the quality is there before releasing files and I prefer being able to prototype the parts myself. ๐
Hey Chris, The short answer is yes. I'd like to get some printed for myself and I don't see a reason not to make them available in some way.
I suspect it might not be very soon though; I don't have access to my own machine at the moment and there'll undoubtedly be some adjustments needed. ๐
Oh! I didn't know you were on Bluesky. Much thanks ๐
Ohh! yeh, I see it. Those are fantastic sculpts, I'll have to look more into those.
I had to look this up.. You're not wrong!
Those old CG renders are nightmare fuel, though. ๐
I'd like to upload them onto either my Gumroad of Kofi.
With my previous miniatures I had access to a good resin printer and was able to do several rounds of testing and adjustment to make sure the kit printed well.
It might take me a little longer now to get the poses optimised and tested. ๐ค
