Growing up in India, ‘The Pitt’ actor Supriya Ganesh writes, I never questioned my gender. When I moved to the U.S. at 18, I began to feel increasingly disconnected from my body.

i don't believe in posting through it or centering my Diaspora Feelings over what my family and friends are living through in real time so i will refrain from expanding this into a whole thread of angst. please donate to mutual aid efforts in lebanon www.chuffed.org/project/1719...

but genuinely yanks and yt people on a broader spectrum refuse to even carry a degree of discomfort. the price of that comfort is lives of coloured people whose culture is so often stolen, bastardised or cherry picked for your convenience or critique.
and it’s through a culmination of these things that the bigger picture is reassessed
shift one perspective at home, that changed perspective goes and has a different conversation and will eventually shift one more (or more) and so on. the effect webs and ripples. at an extremely baseline level inspiring change is possible through an individual level
globally we wouldn’t have been in a great place either way but the path towards getting to a better place starts at home & having those hard conversations about stances etc. if you’re not having those convos because they’re “too hard” or “very tiring” or “not worth it” you are a big dummy
for example, boycotting is the easiest thing you can do. giving up coca cola, mcdonalds… not going to disney etc. isnt hard yet a lot just wont do it. baffling! simplest thing you can possibly and passively do. it’s not even a compromise to comfort here, just an adjustment lol like ???
if there’s anything that the last maybe half decade or so has blatantly confirmed is that yanks & generally yt folks will happily let the global east and south rot & generally keep their heads down if it means it preserves their comfort. it is genuinely such a letdown lmao
most populations within other countries are spread by some sort of distance and yet they’re able to physically do something, often under more strenuous and risky circumstances. this is as laughable as it is pathetic and a prime example of yank exceptionalism
So cool that this website is mostly one big circlejerk where americans pat each other on the back and say they did all they could and expect the very few non american bluesky users to just be ok with that
joy is resistance is for the victims of western violence refusing to give up what makes them human.
not for you to shove your head up your ass so you can ignore anything that makes your delicate sensibilities feel "uncomfy," you effete little monsters.
"joy is resistance" is for black people facing government brutality. palestinians experiencing genocide. latinos living in fear of ice. iranians experiencing western aggression.
not you, sitting at your pc telling yourself to have some ice cream to feel better while your government kills people.
