You may have already heard some of the online hubbub after the BAFTA's mishap surrounding the British drama 'I Swear', a story about a young man with Tourette's, but it's absolutely worth seeing the film for Robert Aramayo’s breakout leading turn alone. silverscreenriot.com/i-swear-revi...

Great news! UNION COUNTY, the fantastic feature debut from writer-director Adam Meeks with a never-better Will Poulter, was just picked up by Oscilloscope Laboratories for a theatrical release to come in summer/fall 2026. Read my review below from back at Sundance to get ready 📽️

David reviews 'Lee Cronin's The Mummy' and shares some brief thoughts on Steven Soderbergh's 'The Christophers.'

"Well, I didn’t expect The Drama to go there. You didn’t/won’t either. And that’s part of the fun with this deliriously unkempt drama-comedy-romance starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya."
Member reviews: Normal -- Marina Coates
"It’s an interesting concept, and the filmmakers take it and run with it, but it’s not much deeper than that."
Member reviews: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie -- Candice McMillan
“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is a frenzied film with a patchwork plotline that blasts through scenes like a runaway roller coaster. It’s bright and shiny on the outside."
Member reviews: Normal -- Konnor Beaulier
"Odenkirk once again plays a reticent character with a mysterious background, harboring some sort of violent mishap, this time as Ulysses Richardson a temporary sheriff in the sleepy town of Normal, Minnesota."
WAKE UP SEATTLE: Tickets are now on sale for the general public for the Seattle International Film Festival that kicks off @siffnews.bsky.social in May. To get ready, read my initial recs in @thestranger.com below that ended up being documentary & locally focused of the great stuff you should see 📽️
THRASH, the shark survival film from Tommy Wirkola, fails to bite into the premise it borrowed from the much better Crawl. Now on Netflix. #thrash #sharks #horror ##moviereview www.cinema-crazed.com/blog/2026/04...
A still from Sky Hopinka’s POWWOW with a dancer standing in the center of a small field with a spotlight shining down on him in the Seattle night.
A still from JJ Gerber’s THE LIFE WE LEAVE, a documentary about human composting, with a group sitting on the ground next to containers holding the remained of loved ones that are currently composting.
A still from Valerie Veatch’s GHOST IN THE MACHINE, a documentary about AI, with a hand holding robotic eyes and a hinge of some kind.
A still from James Benning’s EIGHT BRIDGES with a titular bridge extending out into the distance before us with water gently flowing by.
SIFF lineup is out with local gems + some of the more ambitious programming of recent memory. Thus, burned the midnight oil to write up early recs (POWWOW PEOPLE, THE LIFE YOU LEAVE, GHOST IN THE MACHINE, & EIGHT BRIDGES) for @thestranger.com to get ya started 📽️

I checked in with everyone’s favorite comedian-turned TV icon-turned action star Bob Odenkirk to chat through his late stage career pivot into action, what interests him in a script, and his powers as a multi-hyphenate creator.

Lena Góra (left) and Charli XCX (right) laugh together in a club while bathed in yellow light in a still from Pete Ohs’ great new film ERUPCJA.
ERUPCJA: The best of the growing number of Charli XCX movies thus far is technically her first and is also the best film yet from filmmaker Pete Ohs. It's a poetic, playful, and profound work that itself feels like a work of collaborative musical combustion 📽️

MILE END KICKS, the great new film from writer-director Chandler Levack starring Devon Bostick & Barbie Ferreira, is a coming-of-age classic for a modern generation worth falling head over heels in love with. Washington folks, read my review below then go out to see it in theaters starting Thursday📽️
The third film from French writer-director Julia Ducournau is as freaky and unsettling as her previous features (Raw, Titane) though cannot reach the same overall heights. Still worth checking out. Out today on VOD. silverscreenriot.com/alpha-review/
At midnight in January in Park City, this effective little number scared the hell out of me. 'undertone' is now available on streaming. Watch it immediately. silverscreenriot.com/sundance-26-...

What Does That Nature Say to You? (Hong Sang-Soo, 2025), The Drama (Kristoffer Borgli, 2026)

Now available to stream on VOD, Julia Ducournau’s ALPHA was one of the most divisive from last year’s Cannes, but I think it not only deserves, but will reward deeper reflection. It's both entirely different than RAW and TITANE while bringing the same evocative, emotional power. You should see it 📽️
‘Normal’ has some interesting components working in its favor - an interesting director in Ben Wheatley, a compelling star in Bob Odenkirk - but the finished product feels retread and slapdash.

Ben Wheatley directs Bob Odinkirk in NORMAL. A new sheriff in a town with a secret. One that leads to over the top comic violence. Very fun. Played at @overlookfilmfest.bsky.social last weekend and at your multiplex next! #normal #normalmovie #moviereview

On April 16, Seattle Film Society presents SJ Chiro's first feature Lane 1974 preceded by the delightful short Little Red Riding Hood. A Q&A with Chiro will follow (I get to do the honors). I've seen Lane twice now, and really enjoyed it, incl. the @siffnews.bsky.social premiere. Tickets at link!
A scene from the documentary #SKYKING where a hand pulls up a cover of a car and reveals a yellow license plate that reads BEEBO, the nickname of the 28-year-old man who stole a plane from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in 2018 (Courtesy of ABC News Studios).
Patricia E. Gillespie wanted to understand Richard "Beebo" Russell, the 28-year-old who stole a plane from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. For @seattletimes.com, I spoke to her about her attempt to do so with her documentary #SKYKING 📽️

Came home from vacation to a multi-thousand dollar plumbing problem.
So if you ever considered subscribing to thechinesecinema.com, now would be a good time. Every drop in the bucket helps, so to speak.
The moment is now here where BLUE HERON, the flooring feature debut from Sophy Romvari that's also the best film of 2026 thus far, is making its way out into theaters. You'll be hearing about it in the weeks, months, and years ahead. Seattle folks, you can & absolutely should see it starting May 7 📽️
EXIT 8 finds a depth in a simple concept: a man must find his way out of looping subway station. Expertly designed and unnerving, seek it out.
#exit8 #neon @neon-rated.bsky.social www.cinema-crazed.com/blog/2026/04...
Playing at @overlookfilmfest.bsky.social and limited.
#horror #liminalspace
Had fun with EXIT 8, adapted from a minimalist video game where a character walks into a subway tunnel, turns left, then right, and ends up right back where he started.
More mystery and suspense than horror, but definitely see it with an audience!

The Blair Witch-inspired HUNTING MATTHEW NICHOLS blends true crime with found-footage and builds to an intense final act. There's problems, especially in the first half, but this scrappy underdog effort might be worth the time for patient fan horror fans.
@seattlecritics.bsky.social
Starring Barbie Ferreira and Dacre Montgomery, the reimagining of cult classic FACES OF DEATH presents itself as both a finger-wagging commentary on social media and a gruesome slasher flick.
You can't have it both ways. At least not in this film.
