My dad passed away last year. Every time I shop now, I remember what he told me a long time ago. (2/2)

When I was a kid, I returned the shopping cart to the cart corral in the parking lot. My dad gently pointed out that I was equidistant to the corral and the store, and if I had returned the cart to the store, I would have saved an employee from needing to bring the cart back to the store. (1/2)
Skyscrapers overlooking Central Park in NYC, Billionaires Row
Springtime in New York (although given the humidity, it feels more like July). World’s slimmest skyscraper at left.

Last day of work at the coolest sabbatical job ever. Thanks to the team for letting me fulfill a childhood dream.

Is taking the bus feasible, or is that going to be very slow around 9;00 am?
I'll be traveling from Penn Station or Grand Central Station NYC to Yankee Stadium. Is there a train that is above ground so I can see the city, or are they all subways?
📢 Paper alert!
Excited to share the first publication of my PhD!😁
We analysed fossil occurrences of the last 23 Ma to understand how geographic range change relates to extinction risk.🌍🐚🪸🦈

Interesting, I never knew that. It emphasizes that the way things are now is not the way things have always been, or have to be.
Yes, I think this is definitely true for math. With the chalkboard, you write at the same pace that students take notes. With slides, equations appear faster than students can write or think.

I drove through my old college town last week, and I'm happy to report that despite the gray skies, Ithaca is still gorges.
What a wonderful essay this was; thank you.
You could also manually draw a line for the axis, and then use mtext or text to add the labels.
You’ve heard of ecosystem engineers. Earth system engineers have even larger, longer impacts on the planet. 🌏 🧪 #ExtremeEarthMakeover
Look at the references and see which journals the cited articles appear in.
I don't understand why we ever used "citizen science". I've always preferred "community science".

Zero — my college gives smaller raises every year rather than one bigger raise at tenure/promotion. (This is probably better because you get the money sooner.)
Great article!
My department at CSU Northridge is hiring a vertebrate functional morphologist! We've got a great EEB group, and we're looking for someone to carry forward a tradition of enriching organismal courses and community-engaged research. App review starts March 15

The two-stage quincunx can be used to show that a normal mixture of normal distributions is itself normal.
Amber Glenn did win a medal, a gold in the team skating event. And yes, the team event counts, just like a relay in track or swimming counts.
I would be very hesitant to try a sport called “skeleton”.
Also, respect to Ilia Malinin for his sportsmanship. What a contrast to the unfortunate ending of the women's free skate in the 2022 Olympics.
Alysa Liu (USA) hugging Ami Nakai (Japan) after the latter finished her free skate. Nakai was the last to skate, and when she completed her program, she clinched the bronze medal and Liu the gold.
For me, the best moment of the Olympics was Ami Nakai not realizing that she had won bronze in her first Olympics, then seeing her score, double-checking with Alysa Liu, and Alysa coming over to celebrate with her before Alysa had even celebrated her own win. So heartwarming.
Fossil with multiple parallel fissures inside. Embedded in a stone with lots of light-colored, smaller fossils.
Can anyone tell me what this might be? Found on the limestone base of a sculpture at the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia. #fossil #marine #limestone

Thanks! Wow, I did not know there are terrestrial ostracods. I'm hoping we will someday find terrestrial pycnogonids and discover that they are the sister group to pipe cleaner animals.
