ALSO: The website is www.zooniverse.org/projects/apr...
The site says the project has completed 0% of the sample since the end of 2024, so lets help them out! π
Found out that the Euclid team needs help classifying some gravitational lensing through @mpe-garching.bsky.social. This was much better than looking at my emails while I had my coffee. (60 done today - i'll update my stats as I go on). π π
Definitely could be the case! It would depend on how much rotation/tilt the ellipse has. My intention was to keep it very simple and just about playing with the plots but Iβll add a note in the tutorial about that thanks.βΊοΈ
Every person ever when you first start reading papers says to just look at the plots... well what do you do when they need Fort Knox level knowledge to decipher?
Read my newest astrobite, that's what!
This is doing something for the existential dread (good or bad I have yet to decide)
fun perk of working on simulations of the universe: increase in existential dread. π
This was certainly interesting to be involved with π
Are we totally wrong about how much dust there is at high redshifts? π π βοΈ
...You'll have to read my very first paper to find out!
It just became available on arxiv, but I'll be posting a simplified annotated version and a blog post in the coming weeks too.

Growing up is realising that my 2016 galaxy leggings were in fact 2016 nebula leggings.
From @astroryan.bsky.social: Thereβs no sugar on this doughnut β might we need to ditch tori for large nuclear disks around active galactic nuclei? Todayβs authors peer deep into NGC 4151 to find out! βοΈ π βοΈ π§ͺ

Going to wager they probably meant that astronauts eat this in space (is that true?) so you should too.
I bought these freeze dried strawberries to try but good to know that the US government hasnβt cut funding to space food.

Idk if these big guys are real but they are part of my research π₯
Trying to explain my Monday work to my family:
Iβm running a simulation that is in a virtual box with side length approx 10000000000000000000000000 kilometres to see how many black holes I find.
Surely that makes sense π
I've recently started making little astro images to procrastinate reading 70+ page review papers. If you want to see more, like this post ππ βοΈ
I think my biggest compliment while teaching came when I was running a physics unit for environmental science students. I showed one student some Excel hotkeys and they said:
βWow, youβre a weapon, miss!β πͺ
When I'm struggling with some code I think: No, You're a weapon Jayde.
That's great to hear! I wanted it to be as accessible as possible π
Okay now I can reveal the exciting news that this year i became a part of the @astrobites.bsky.social writing rotation, that means you can see writing from me on the internet every few weeks.
And the first one has just come out!
I believe my complaints about the lack of rain has backfired because I saw no glimpses of a super epic blood red lunar eclipse last night.
However, I will always have the The Twilight Saga: Eclipse πΊπ¦
The three books i'm begging my Sci-interested folk to read ππ½π
Update: it is actually raining now and I am complete π§π»ββοΈ
Everyone told me when I moved to Melbourne to get ready for the rain.
Jokeβs on them β I love the rain.
Jokeβs on me β the forecast keeps promising rain and thenβ¦ no rain.
A field filled with stars and covered by clouds of gas and dust. In the centre, a thick column of dark black dust blocks light from stars that light it up from behind. More clouds behind those stars are illuminated in pale colours. Complex, layered filaments of red dust lie to the left and right. Blue, white and gold stars in various sizes can be seen around, within and through the colourful layers of dust.
The intricate structure of the stellar eruption looks like a giant and brightly coloured ribbon in space.
Against star-studded black space, an orange nebula surrounds a star.
Misty, bluish-white gas nearly fills this image. A few scattered stars shine through the gas. To the bottom left and just near a bright star, a dark cloud of dust interrupts the glowing, nebulous landscape.
the world is making me sad again and i need some space from it all.
*chooses a PhD to challenge myself and learn a ton of new things π*
me this week: waitβ¦ I actually have to learn all these things π³
Well actually my first week of PhD was two weeks ago but I spent it over in Perth at the Aus National Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics science workshop! π€
An insane first week but it was good to get to know the simulation tools Iβll be using over the next 3 years!
UWA is beautiful btw π±
Learnt from the best π ππ»ββοΈ
Like this secret thread post if you want to see obnoxious amounts of food pictures π΅οΈ
Iβve been totally MIA on socials because over the last few months Iβve been organising my move to th big city. ποΈ
Ya girl just started her PhD @ Swinburne Uni in Melbourne!
Very excited for this new chapter and much news on the way π
